Lost Engine- when to pitch for Airspeed

First, this thread is not about climbout. Most don’t climbout above best glide speed. Second, if you’re trimmed for climbout and the engine quits, you will only hear the stall horn if you add aft elevator to try to keep the nose up. Climbout hands off the controls, pull power and see what...

Lost Engine- when to pitch for Airspeed

I believe it's more appropriate to fly the airplane properly....as Reno racers do when their engines go kaput.

When to pull throttle idle on landing.

For real. Flying is like any other activity. Some people have weird ideas about technique. Some people fly like Charles Barkley's old golf swing LOL. https://tenor.com/oYxi.gif

    Aerobatic aircraft options?

Leading with the rudder is not good technique for precision acro...if you're into that sort of thing.

    Aerobatic aircraft options?

There's an article out there by AOPA claiming 180 deg/sec roll rate for a Decathlon which is more than laughable. That's the roll rate of a Pitts S-1S. Pitts S-1C rolls about 120 deg/sec. Take a look at this video which takes 4.8 seconds from inverted to inverted (stabilized roll rate) which is...

The Van’s RV-10 - Is it the perfect airplane?

RVs appeal to gadgetheads. In the acro bipe world the closest thing you see to panel freaks are those who put in a silly VSI lol.

    Aerobatic aircraft options?

The Eagle certainly does have ergonomic advantages over a Pitts, which is why it exists. But it's very rare to hear anyone say they prefer the performance and feel of the Eagle over a Pitts. But practically speaking the overall performance of the Eagle is about the same as the Pitts S-2A.

    Aerobatic aircraft options?

Hopefully with some additional training/experience you'll figure out what type of aircraft you might want to start with. Ignore anyone who says you need an intermediate airplane before getting into a Pitts. Getting good training is all that matters. This means a checkout as well as aerobatic...

Swearingen down, 1 killed, Manchester NH 12-10-21

Sounds like a flight simmer kid. Pilots don't say things like "cut power to zero".

    Single Seat Planes?

    People ask high. ;) https://www.aircraftdealer.com/view-ad-list.php?searchVal=RV-3&button=Search

    Single Seat Planes?

Ah, gotcha. And yes similar performance in cruise, but those glass birds have nowhere near the short field capability of the RV. The RV easily handles rough grass strips too, and is good for acro. Has a pretty huge baggage compartment for a little single seater. You'd have to be one...

    Single Seat Planes?

Unless it's a real showplane, RV-3s don't generally bring over 40K. Not really that many out there in good flying condition, but many can be had for well under 40.

    Single Seat Planes?

I've flown them, RV-3 is the best all-around pure sportplane ever.

    High on final, overshooting final.

Please inform working bush pilots that they need to dial their abilities way down to YOUR level.

Proud owner of this bird. Now what

Don't take a Cub for granted though - I've seen lots of Cubs get ground looped, especially in x-winds. They are very lightly loaded and get thrown around in wind gusts and don't soak up side load as well as some other airplanes. Generally speaking, most tailwheel airplanes require about the same...

Proud owner of this bird. Now what

The Great Lakes is a much bigger heavier plane with the softest oleo strut gear ever put on an airplane. Requires effort to mess up a landing. A J-3 Cub would land more similar to this plane.

Proud owner of this bird. Now what

Very cool. This plane has an airfoil and wingspan that will produce much slower landings than a Pitts, and the gear is much wider so the landing roll will be more stable. I'd bet this will land very Cub like, just with more biplane drag of course. Doing tailwheel training in the back (proper)...

Interesting your calling him a moron considering your own history of POA posts lol.

    Study Material

The old timers always mention it but it’s really just one of the first acro books laying out some fundamental concepts that don’t change and newer books fully cover. Don’t go spending a fortune for its rarity nostalgia factor. Cassidy’s book makes nearly all of them obsolete.

    Study Material

Nothing really, yet. Seriously, just show up and listen. This will be very fundamental, basic training. No need to pre-study. If you end up really stoked about continuing acro, keep getting training and pick up Alan Cassidy’s book ‘Better Aerobatics’. Bar far the best acro book available. And...
