VFR Nav Log- ok to use GPS (IFR) waypoints?

As dmspilot highlighted, you will be tested on pilotage...which means VISUAL waypoints. That means non-electronic. Not even VORs. (Shame on your private pilot instructor for not starting you out correctly). Visual means something on the ground that you can see with your eyes, btw. Sorry for...

Waiting for someone to take a "shot". Then joining in and piling on. That's what bullies do. It doesn't matter how it's euphemized or justified. What happened here is people kept kicking someone who is already down. That's bullying.

Inverters--Pure Sine vs. Modified Sine Wave

First, referring to a transformer as a "DC transformer" confuses things. The conventional use of a transformer is in AC applications. What you are talking about is most likely a step-down transformer with a rectifier or a AC-DC converter. If big and heavy, it is likely to be the former; light...

Wow. Some of you can only be described as bullies.

If you feel the DPE was disrespectful, it may be a good idea to report it to his FSDO. Maybe he is a jerk and needs to be called out. Maybe he didn't mean anything and was just trying to lighten the mood but wasn't successful. He would appreciate a bit of constructive feedback. Being...

    IFR students building cross-country time

Some people are saying they can log 200 each. I'm checking out how legit that is. Thanks to RussR, we know the faa says it's not.

    IFR students building cross-country time

This is what I'm hearing. What is your reasoning?

    IFR students building cross-country time

I happen to believe it legit. Just want to be sure cuz a lot of cfis don't think so. The reason I think it's hokey is I don't think this way provides real xcountry flying experience.

    IFR students building cross-country time

The argument I'm getting from other cfis is the definition for xcountry is not just 50nm but conducting the landing as well. Therefore the pilot not flying cannot log xcountry since (s)he did not perform the landing. I, personally, don't see it a problem...so why I'm reaching out for views.

    IFR students building cross-country time

Hello all, I've not been a fan of this idea that many aspiring IFR students are doing to build their 50 hours of required cross-country (PIC) time: 1. pair up 2. one flies under the hood and other is safety pilot 3. fly somewhere > 50nm. 4. switch roles on return trip. 5. both logs PIC cross...

Help with KOAK ILS 28R missed approach instructions

Mt Diablo is pretty far away. Not sure of your concern. Maybe it just looks close cuz it's so big?

Anyone here from the old gang at the Fremont (CA) airport?

I believe it was the Fremont Drag strip and it was co-located with the Sky Sailing Airport. Drove by to see them once. Remembered busy glider ops there.

ILS 4 into KUIN - file to?

Like Midlifeflyer, I'm also confused. Would you explain what you said and why you concluded what you did?

ILS 4 into KUIN - file to?

I Don't think anyone files to an iaf even though they say it. Not what they meant. They file to the airport with the iaf as a waypoint. Makes a lot of sense. What downside does this have? Gives flexibility for lost comms... And if atc vectors, so what?

"Procedure N/A at Night" - What is "night"?

I may not know much but how is a visual approach even an instrument approach, let alone be published where such a restriction can be stipulated? Or were you kidding?

Anyone here from the old gang at the Fremont (CA) airport?

Sometime in 1984, a pilot friend took 3 of us in a 172 to lunch at the Livermore airport. We drove a few miles from our Milpitas office to fly out of the Fremont airport. I was a PP at the time but not active. Great times. I miss seeing aircraft on short final coming over the 880 freeway.

    Opinions on Accelerated Commercial courses

Congratulations for getting it done! Thank you for sharing your story. You made a good decision in pulling out of that flight program in favor of something else. Flight training is one of those things that can easily go badly, especially if the wrong flight instructor gets involved...and...
