    First flight in . . . nearly 11 years.

I want to double like this one. :-) Thanks for all the great feedback / support, folks. Coincidentally, the club had an open house today, and my two littlest kids again got to climb all over the airplanes, which we have done a few times in the last couple weeks. The four-year-old is ready to...

    First flight in . . . nearly 11 years.

Trained out of C81, Westosha Flying Club was at 5K6, but is now at Kenosha Regional (ENW).

    First flight in . . . nearly 11 years.

Thanks, it's good to be back. Wife's supportive, my 'baby' is 12 now, and I've got two more kids who are excited about planes (but sized me out of our 172s). The real shock was realizing our then fairly new 172SPs are now, well, aged club birds. :D
  4. Oblivion

    First flight in . . . nearly 11 years.

My last logbook entry was 10/03/2007. My daughter was just over a year old, money was getting tight, and my time to fly was falling precipitously - my two prior flights were July and May of that year. A MILD scare/dose of disorientation on that last flight (evening/night + possible/probable...

    Emergency landing, Lake Shore Drive

I was wondering that too. Wondered if reporter, but did not see her in a getaway vehicle.

    Emergency landing, Lake Shore Drive

I'm glad they're safe - it makes watching this coverage amusing (the selfies, the assumed Public Works guys standing around . . . ).

Too bad Meigs wasn't still an option.

    Sickle Cell Disease in PAX

I wanted to add that although this is only about Sickle Cell Trait, our doctor told me about Vance Marchbanks, of whom I was unaware: https://airandspace.si.edu/stories/editorial/vance-marchbanks-contribution-public-health-policy-sickle-cell-disease

    LoLPilot's Private Checkride

SAME THING happened to me, even being warned that it was one of her tricks, but the private strip she had in mind was REALLY obscure.

    Sickle Cell Disease in PAX

Many thanks, Doctor. We (mostly my wife) have been watching the research closely and her hematologist is one of the leaders of it, but she's (good and bad) not a candidate for any of the 'cures' yet. I appreciate your more conservative guideline and will definitely take it to heart. It's a...

    Poor post-fight planning. :-)

    Sickle Cell Disease in PAX

Considering that a sickle cell pain crisis can result in a multi-day hospital stay with a morphine drip as well as serious organ damage, and crisis can be brought on by something as simple as getting too cold, it's my job to be overly concerned. ;) That said, the specialist was intrigued by the...

    Sickle Cell Disease in PAX

Thanks, I did turn up similar for commercial travel and the hydration tip is good for everyone, but especially important here. I'd still like a little more guidance specific to bug-smashers, if available.

    Sickle Cell Disease in PAX

@bbchien I have a question for you that google has turned up little on, if I may. I have a daughter with SS-type SCD. She's thankfully had no complications/pain crisis yet, though her older full sibling has endured a few already (the girls are in the 4-6 age range if it matters). I was...

    PPL Checkride Tuesday

Was never a doubt. Was just curious how hard you were partying. :-) Way to go, Airman!

    PPL Checkride Tuesday

I can't link to a silly .gif (maybe after this post?), but just wanted to say good luck, we're all counting on you.

    I hope you filed IFR.

    PPL Checkride Tuesday

Ah, I'd taken my wife skydiving on one of our first dates and she loves riding two-up on the motorcycle (though has no real interest in going solo) and she'd also gone along with my CFI once, so she was pretty stoked then disappointed. Due to - whatever - it was another week until took her and...

    PPL Checkride Tuesday

Definitely do a write-up when it's over - even if it's just for you. Just recently I was reading over my checkride notes from 14 years ago. Was an awesome, even amusing, walk down memory lane. As others have said - if the CFI says you're ready, you're ready. Be confident, though not cocky...
  20. Oblivion

How old is old enough. . .

Took my daughter (just her and I) when she was 2, and she enjoyed it, but got scared poopless by one surprise FA-18 pass and the weird 'whomp' noise the V-22's rotors make while transitioning - despite hearing protection. Granted, we're 'local-enough' that we day-tripped by car, no camping...
