    Aircraft Purchase.

It is important to have all the numbers and know your expected annual cost of ownership (attractive purchase price may not reflect huge cost of ownership) - but this all have been covered before. Also you have to know what type of flying you are looking for, payload, distances, mountains, etc...

    G1000 glare

Sam here, if I keep my heads straight then no problem reading my G1000 Perspective+ screens, but a slight lean of my head sideways and displays fade significantly.

    LPV approaches ... GPS altitude?

Most likely they wouldn't even be able to load it, it would not show up in their database. The same way I don't see RNP approaches in my Cirrus' nav database.

    LPV approaches ... GPS altitude?

It has nothing to do with "turbine", latest Gulfstreams for example can fly LPV approaches. Also many Alaska's 737s can fly very advanced RNP approaches which are probably the 'holy grail' of GPS approaches, it is a matter of what is needed by the operator and what makes financial sense in terms...

    LPV approaches ... GPS altitude?

They may be WAAS "equipped" but are not certified for WAAS approaches. It may not take a lot to have them WAAS certified but there is probably little interest from airlines for extra expense and dubious utility.

    LPV approaches ... GPS altitude?

With probability 95% the GPS-WAAS vertical error is less than 2 m so clearly it isn't that bad.

Question on VOR 7 approach at KART

I agree with you - it looks weird, there is no way to second guess why they designed it this way. For your checkride you may have to do a VOR approach (I didn't have to) but after the checkride I suggest you liberate yourself from VOR approaches. Get WAAS capable airplane like someone above...

    Volunteer Private Pilot

If this is your friend no one has to know. Specially if it is done rarely it is really a matter of agreement between you and him. You must trust your friend of course not to report you to FAA. But there are other expenses besides fuel, what about aircraft rental costs (assuming he isn't the...

    Steam gauges and IFR avionics

My concern would be making typical piloting errors that lead to deadly accidents far more than equipment failure. They are also far more probable statistically, pilots die and rarely is is because of some equipment failure. If steam gauges are your choice I would definitely invest in a portable...

Any last minute tips for an IFR checkride?

My DPE told me before the checkride that he would tell me when I failed the checkride and it would be up to me to continue (and get credit for things I do right) or discontinue the checkride. So I find such abrupt termination rather strange.

Tesla Model 3 - Now I get the hype.

We all have our subjective perspectives, at least to me it is the Lexus that seem similar enough to the Cirrus, I even purchased an IS 350 because it's 'cockpit' reminded me so much of the Cirrus. BTW, this latest Miata is great and I agree - it is superbly designed interior, too small a car for...

    Instruments ILS Question

Yes, it would be necessary to make any sense out of the discussion.

What is the best way to study for the Instrument Written Test?

There is no “best way” way, whatever works for you. But I never studied “for the written”, I studied to understand the subject. I used different sources, even such unorthodox as Machado’s books. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Using VFR Only GPS for Approaches in VFR?

Not if you are flying in actual IMC. If you are flying in actual IMC the ceiling doesn't have to go down to MDA/DH to log this approach.

    Starting Instrument Rating

I am using foggles called VIBAN, they are probably the most expensive such IFR glasses (around $40) but other in my case either fell apart or I hated them, I am using the version that doesn’t allow for eyeglasses but they also offer a version compatible with your eyeglasses. Headset pleasesss!

It is impossible subject, it is like discussing art. Consider me - I got both Clarity Aloft and Lightspeed Zulu Z3 and to this day I can't make up my mind which one is better. On hot days I definitely prefer CA.

Getting back into flying, I have a couple questions.

I got back into flying after 22 years so we are close . But I would pass checkride first, then purchase a plane, I know of a fellow here in our club who purchased a plane and was never able to complete his PPL.

    Getting nervous about IFR checkride

Congrats, I know the satisfaction and sense of relief, have been through this 2 months ago. I am not Bob Hoover, took me a year but I did it.
