    Sub lost contact over Titanic

Hoping for a good outcome, of course, but if it had a hull failure USN probably heard it.

    Rental car woes

It doesn't matter anyway, they won't have what you asked for anyway, and will try to charge you more for whatever is left, even if it is some micro-sized SUV. It's getting fun in California because Hertz is replacing a lot of their fleet with EVs - Bolts and Kia Niro's in particular. Then...

    8500-8 Advice

The only choice you have here is whether you ask an AME for a consultation to discuss your history, and whether and what the specific issues would be, before even filling out the application. It is likely that what you have described would all be ok, even for a Class I, but without knowing all...

    Rental car insurance

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. In some areas it's still relatively cheap, under $15/day. When I don't get it, I take a bunch of photos before I even get in it, to show what the condition was before rental. I did have the coverage help considerably one almost comically-bad day about 10...

Just had a TOL Eval. Went pretty badly.

Wow, you're 29 years old, thousands of dollars into your training, and just now are concerned about the internet reviews for your chosen flight school. And now you feel obliged to personally attack the CFI. If you think this part of training is too hard and judgemental for you, you're going to...

Just had a TOL Eval. Went pretty badly.

Ignoring the other pilot in the cockpit isn't good CRM. You need to learn how to communicate, before, during and after a flight. It doesn't matter if you think they're a jackass or not, you have to deal with it. Right from your opening where you scored your own landings 6-8/10, you should have...

Uh oh! Made a mistake on my MedXpress, haven't visited AME.

The multiple visits for the same condition in a short period of time are just reported as a single event. I.e., "Treated by dermatologist is month/year for cyst removal".

Flying club members/owners: what’s your AOG policy?

From a safety policy standpoint, especially for a non-equity club, I'd have the club absorb the cost, assuming the pilot did not contribute meaningfully to the AOG situation. It is best to not incentivize pilots to "push on" in the face of a mechanical issue in hopes of avoiding retrieval costs.

    Typical Guy Wires

A friendly reminder to any of you visiting Fullerton. This abomination, on the left base leg to Runway 6 and the crosswind leg for right (normal) pattern for 24, still exists, after getting hit TWICE. I witnessed the second hit, a 182 hitting a guy wire.

    Cessna 182Q Crash, Reliance, TN

To be clear, the original airworthiness date is still 1977, but the certificate date is 2005. Both appear in the records. If someone was looking at a database that didn't show all the data fields from the FAA, I can see why they might be confused why an older plane had a newer date attached to it.

    Cessna 182Q Crash, Reliance, TN

If your airworthiness certificate is lost or damaged and gets replaced, you get a new one from the FSDO with a new date. Our '77 has a cert issued in 2005 because the old one was becoming unreadable.

Anyone know the deployment envelope for tBRS in a 182? My hunch is it was pulled too late. Big parts falling off 182s is very rare.

    Dr. Visit reporting

Go forth and sin no more. If you want to continue down the paranoia path, you can request a "Blue Ribbon" copy of your medical records from OKC, which should have copy of all your medical applications. But this is a complete "yawn".

    Communication between shops and customers

We use texts a lot for communication. It allows the shop owner to respond when he can without interrupting his work, and creates a written trail of communication so there aren't misunderstandings. This year we had a longer list than normal of things to do, so we created a shared google doc with...

do i report this to the faa hotline?

Unless you know for a fact that whatever he did or did not do to the airplane was causal to incident, I'd stay out of it. If the FAA wants to find something, he's on their radar now. It's also perfectly legal for the pilot/owner to take the seats out. Maybe he was fixing the carpeting, or any...

    Kidney stone

Yes, you can go with a safety pilot. You can actually go fly by yourself if you feel have been told by the doc that there isn't anything else in the pipeline. The issue is, what evidence do you have that there is nothing else? Do you have a perfectly clean CT? This is the time to go Basic Med...

    Replacing truck, need opinions

    - Yes, still have two teenagers and haul them and their friends regularly, 4 doors is a requirement. There are some design features of the Ranger I don't like (such as, the rear seat doesn't fold flat). I don't do hard-core off-roading, and what I do is more likely to be high clearance and...

    Replacing truck, need opinions

Tom- I am looking for a mid-size only. The problem with full size trucks in my area is a lot of parking lots aren't built for the width of modern full-size pickups, so parking routinely becomes a major hassle. I had a 2004 Sierra and it was a great truck, but they've only gotten wider since then.
