Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

I found it a bit odd that we didn't hear from the CRJ, but they had to be having a major WTF moment. Interesting that it didn't look like the CRJ got spun around much, if at all, but the tail isn't built for any real side loads.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

Doing a little measuring in Google Earth, it looks like *if* the CRJ-900 had pulled *all the way* up to the hold-short line *and* the A350 was on centerline, there should have been enough clearance. Barely. But it doesn't look like they were even close to the hold line.

What age is appropriate to start flight lessons?

I started giving a little informal yoke time (straight and level to very shallow turns) to one of my kids who loves flying when he was about 7 years old. He's since had one "official" logged intro when he was 15, and I suspect he'll go for his cert while he's in college. He definitely flies a...

    Any Career CFI's?

I paid $35/hr to my independent Part 61 CFII 22 years ago in the LA area, and that was pretty typical. If you're getting less than $70-$75/hr these days as a 1099 or self-employed CFI, you're grossly underselling yourself. You're responsible for teaching someone how not to kill themselves (and...

On Mobility, or Why We Don't Have Flying Cars Yet

All I want is Rosie the Robot to fold my laundry. Seriously, that's it. That was my only expectation of the future 40 years ago, but nope, Big Laundry couldn't even give me that.

    Drop-in 100LL Replacement "Impossible"?

An awareness that 50-year old, patched bladders can leak? Any bladder more than 30 years old should be considered working on borrowed time.

    Drop-in 100LL Replacement "Impossible"?

I would think with all the $$s AOPA has in their bank account, they could afford to replace fuel bladders before they are *50 years old*. Maybe I believe in proactive maintenance schedules more than most...

JimK's somewhat epic southwest family trip

Great trip! I did something similar with my boys a few years ago, very fun memories. That was when my boys learned the airplane could be a "time machine", because there was no way we could have done half of what we did that week (Las Vegas, Canyonlands, Arches, Zion, and a couple state parks...

    Cessna Owner Organizations

Another vote for this course for a new 182 owner. I took this class shortly after we got our 182, nearly 20 years ago, and it definitely makes you a more knowledgeable owner and 182 pilot.

Aviation Scholarships in this "modern" era

I don't know about AOPA's situation, but many times scholarships are funded by donations/endowments that are specifically designated for scholarships.

    Cessna down KIZA (Santa Ynez)

It is. Only one on board, injured. Article is confusing. Prayers for the pilot.

    Toddler "Airplane" Seat

CARES harness, as mentioned above. Works for airlines too. Used one for both my boys.

    The death of an insitution

Fortunately, there aren't many that make it very far into scouting with that approach to life. A lot of what (older, not cub) scouts do is basically a team cooperative game.

    The death of an insitution

Buddha is not a god. BSA also accepts several other "religions" that are not "classically monotheistic". And this is nothing new; the first Buddhist Boy Scout troop in the US was formed in 1920. "Duty to God" is interpreted very broadly to be whatever the scout/their family says it is. Or, at...

    The death of an insitution

Spend some time around teenage girls and you'll find many of them have the same issues as the boys. My kids' junior high had quite a few fights break out. The boys were not the ones fighting.

    The death of an insitution

I've been a very active scout leader for the last ten years. Worn many hats. Currently an assistant scoutmaster, merit badge counselor, district committee member and Eagle advisor. My oldest is a few months away from Eagle, and my younger son is well on his way to Eagle. Some comments based on...

    Aero Classic Leakguards Review

For 20 years, we've only used Michelin tubes and we only need to add some air occasionally. If it works, don't fix it.
