Moving to the Gulf Coast. Do I need a paint job?

@pburger, thanks and great points. Unfortunately, the decision to tie down is due to lack of available hangars. Long waitlists so unfortunately, tie down is the only option. That said, if I do get a paint job I would look into buying a whole aircraft cover.

Moving to the Gulf Coast. Do I need a paint job?

Hi everyone. I am moving to the Ft. Walton Beach/Destin area in a few months and based on my research, I will have to put my Warrior on the tie-down ramp. I had a couple questions I wanted to put to the group: I already have my plane treated with Corrosion X every other annual. Is there...

    Fuel Tank Refurb

My Piper Warrior had a leak about 3 years ago and I used Woodstock Aircraft Services. Took a few weeks, but definitely not 10.

IFR Current - Spacial D freakout

When I went to Air Venture in 2016, one of the most interesting things I did was the FAA's spatial disorientation simulator. It was one of those centrifuges with the single seat with MS Flight Simulator in it (not particularly high-tech). The FAA guy running the simulator started the...

    Happy Independence Day!

I thought I'd share a thought about how flying makes me appreciate the freedom we have in the United States (while trying my best to avoid the political potholes). I bought my Piper over the Fourth of July weekend five years ago from a great guy in Kansas City. I was living in Mississippi at...

PA 28-235 Down in Illinois, 4 Dead, 5/31/2020

Many of us PA-28 owners are worried about the condition of our wing spars and the proposed AD the FAA is working on. Something interesting I read that was linked in an AOPA article (sorry, I'm a "lurker" so I don't have enough posts to add the link) referenced an NTSB member who wrote that the...

How much will airplane prices drop in 2020?

I think in terms of basic economics, prices might go down because the used market gets flooded with more planes for sale because desperate owners are trying to liquidate assets. In that case, I'd predict those owners probably started deferring maintenance issues a while before they decided to...

How much will airplane prices drop in 2020?

I know the asking prices for planes on Trade-A-Plane are likely (I hope) much higher than what they actually sell for. I just looked at some 172s and 182s just out of curiosity and it is pretty obscene what people are asking for for high-time junkers with clapped out interiors and vintage...

    Campsite airports in CA?

Peter, there is a great airport with a campground on site in Columbia, CA (O22). It's in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains about due east of San Francisco. The campground is probably the best I've seen at an airport. More like camping at a state park (trees, camping facilities, etc.)...
