Cirrus down under chute in NC, right next to house. No injuries.

I will admit. I fly in conditions with the Cirrus I would not fly in a Cessna. I would assume the same logic is made by people between a single engine and a twin. IE, I would fly night IFR in the Cirrus where I would not feel comfortable doing so in a Cessna. I don't see any problem with that.

    1.3 billion Powerball next Wednesday

 Dude, if you win.. Please let me come have some fun with this. I really want to know the limits of the Cirrus. We could settle this spin recover-ability stuff and find out what will rip the wings off etc.

Cirrus down under chute in NC, right next to house. No injuries.

Possibly. He stated on the ATC recordings that he had like 14 gal after the approach he was "told to abort" (likely due to his inability to do it). Maybe he ran one tank dry and the engine shut off??

Cirrus down under chute in NC, right next to house. No injuries.

He had 14 or 17 gal when this went down. That is an hour of fuel. I don't think fuel was the big problem here. I think this guy was overloaded and stressed about flying with low'ish fuel and on top of that not very proficient in his IFR skills, then having to deal with being turned away from his...

Cirrus down under chute in NC, right next to house. No injuries.

I'm not saying this guy did the best job with his planning or keeping his IFR piloting abilities where they should be. Heck, non of us have a clue what he was thinking knowing he was low on fuel and struggling to do approaches. I would guess the thought of doing another approach and losing the...

Cirrus down under chute in NC, right next to house. No injuries.

Some of you Cirrus haters are ridiculous. Seems to me this guy did exactly what he should have done, which resulted in him and his wife moving on to spend more time with family, friends and each other. Unfortunately most airplanes don't have the same option and if that was you in a non-parachute...

aviation weather decision making tor the student PPL

I see what your saying, but I don't think that really was a good example for the average IFR flight since you or I may just can that flight anyhow right away. I guess my initial point myself was only that typical long cross country flights are easier to plan when flying IFR than VFR. At-least...

    Newbie IMC question

As a VFR Private pilot you should know enough about weather to keep yourself out of that situation. As a VFR pilot, if you flew into IFR conditions, you should have come from VFR conditions so just Turn Around. Now, when you get your IFR rating.. Heck, you could depart in that, but likely not...

aviation weather decision making tor the student PPL

I fly a FIKI airplane so my options would be more than yours, but it may be doable. I just watched a video posted by a guy out your way in similar weather.

Close calls with my drone and airplanes!

This guy knows how its done. Just need to take my Drone to the airport. Not like an actual airplane might land there or anything right? Look for the airplane turning final around 12:45 into the video. https://youtu.be/SdcdwzbWJ8Y?t=767

I think the weather related planning is easier with the instrument rating. The thought of having to plan a long flight to remain VFR seems like a lot more work unless the forecast is perfect.

Close calls with my drone and airplanes!

This is crazy.. I have had 2 times now in the past week when flying my drone 300-400' AGL almost been hit by an airplane. I sure as hell don't fly my airplane that low other than take off and landing. I even got a picture of one guy going right past me at 350' AGL, maybe 200' away :yikes...

Family Cross Country - Car Seats in PLane?

I fly with my kids all the time and bring their car seats in the airplane just like the car. I also purchased the "TravelJohn" Absorbent bags and had them learn how to use them. They work great.
