    Santa Maria Ca.

If you haven't been there, plan a hop over to Camarillo (CMA). They have a great place for breakfast or lunch and lots of chances to say hi to fellow pilots. There is also a CAF museum there, you can walk to it from the parking outside the restaurant.

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

So, have you sat in one yet? Have you flown one?

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

I found this interesting posting regarding the width of different single engine aircraft. The italicized content below is from this link The range of cabin sizes in the SE piston market is between 38 and 50 inches. That is a full 12 inches / 30 cm difference between the smallest and the widest...

Cross country trips in my A36 are usually with me, my wife and a Golden Retriever named Sky McFly. We don't come anywhere close to maxing out the plane's capacity, so we get the added benefit of being light and that means we get a few knots extra speed. I also upgraded my engine to an IO-550...

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

Turbo normalized A36 if you're willing to wear oxygen. If you want to avoid oxygen, then get a normally aspirated A36 with an IO-550 upgrade. Early models are fastest because they are lighter. -

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

I upgraded my engine to an IO550 from an IO520 (300 HP vs 285HP) and I added D'Shannon Engine baffles for cooling. Those things qualify me to purchase the gross weight STC from D'Shannon.

I've flown the Six, 210 and my A36. For sheer volume, the Six wins - but it's like flying an old school bus. It's a lumbering beast. Not fast, but very stable. The fixed gear version is SLOW. For speed, the 210 and the A36 are very close. Things like engine upgrades and turbo choices will...

    X-C Plane Selection Advice

Based on your list of wants and your budget, these are my thoughts - and boy -oh-boy am I about to get a bunch of people telling me I'm wrong, but at least you'll have some conversation points to consider. This is too long for some people too - oh well, I felt like typing, so suffer through it...

    Popup or Call FSS?

Another option if you have Foreflight or Garmin Pilot - and you have a cell signal - is to use those tools to quickly file a flight plan starting from a given waypoint.

    Popup or Call FSS?

I had this exact scenario last night. Departed central California headed to Southern California and picked up Flight Following from Fresno Approach. After about 20 minutes of flying, I told Bakersfield Approach that my destination was overcast and needed to convert to an IFR flight plan. The...

    Garmin 480 Waas

When you're doing the math that you need to consider when making your decision... a big chunk of the cost is related to the installation and any cutting of the panel that might be needed. A 430 is the same size as a GTN650 but a 480 is kind of unique in size and doesn't allow you to use the...

    Avionic shop is Southern California

I've used Ramona Avionics and I absolutely agree, they'd be my very first choice - but yeah, they are busy. This might not be worth their time. Schmook is probably right, check out Affordable Avionics at Chino. I think there are two avionics shops at Chino. I heard that the larger...

    Ordered new Tecnam P2010

I've seen this plane up close. I'd encourage anyone who assumes it to be "less than" in some way to get their own look at one. It is very good looking, has fit and finish that should embarrass Cessna, and our local mechanic seems to have no concerns about working on it. Performs well against...

    Inflight phone calls?

Do you own your own plane? If so, what you want is an audio panel that supports Bluetooth connections and phone calls. You want a PS Engineering PMA450B. https://www.ps-engineering.com/PMA450B.html

    My ArtCraft Paint Experience

You've been lit up by a bunch of people on both BeechTalk and here on POA. Might be time to take a step back, breath deep and consider that it might not be a problem with the vendor... Thanks for letting us know that the quality of work was great. I recently contacted ArtCraft for a quote...

There's such thing as too many Airframe hours right?

I have a friend with an F33 Bonanza that has over 27,000 hours on it. It was used as part of the training fleet for Lufthansa. They took excellent care of that airplane. Many of the components were changed out based on a schedule and not condition. I've flown it. It's solid. You wouldn't...
