How good or bad were you in early instrument training?

Mine technically took seven years. No Ronas involved.

Why I No Longer Fly Lean of Peak For Now

I am curious what is the revision date on your POH. Mine was issued December 16, 1976 and the latest revision date is November 20, 1981 and says pretty much exactly the opposite.

    Rotorcraft LSA?

Damn that was fun. He is pretty good with that thing. I must have one! :D

    Rotorcraft LSA?

Do not recall what he said it weighed, but I am pretty sure it was more than 254lbs. The engine alone probably weighs more than that.

    Rotorcraft LSA?

Haha.. Where these guys messed up was in trying to hover straght away. Better to just throw 'er into a running takeoff and get goin'! :D

To be fair, 500 miles on a Guzzi is like 1500 BMW or Goldwing miles... :p

    Certified vs experimental chopper

In its latest attempt to reduce manning, combine missions, and hold true to the tradition of building a machine that accomplishes multiple functions very poorly, the US Navy rolls out it latest creation: The Submacopter. Also known as a Helimarine. It may not be able to fly or submerge, but...

    Rotorcraft LSA?

Hmmm..... Not sure how many seats it has. Have not seen it uncovered yet and just met the guy in passing (new neighbor) today. As small as it is, I cannot imagine he put two seats on it...

    Rotorcraft LSA?

OMG.... 1.1... Okay, so it is not LSA and it most obviously is not certified. So he would need to apply for a 'Special Airworthiness Certificate' in the experimental category and a rotorcraft certificate would be required of the pilot...

    Rotorcraft LSA?

Near as I can tell, there just ain't no such thing... I have a neighbor who has built himself a home-made helicopter. Apparently using some kind Subaru engine. Says he has had it a few inches off the deck in a hover but is afraid to take it any further. Question is: Assuming it meets the...

    Questions about mixture leaning

I accommodate this scenario by structuring the checklist in such a manner that the runup checklist is separated from the takeoff checklist by the "Pre-Takeoff Brief". Since the briefing is not something we rush through (making those critical decisions now, on the ground) I make a point of...

What to Expect on Oral for Add-on Rating

Which is it? :p What I meant by "effectively" is this: Let us say for the moment that we have a way of measuring, expressing, and replicating the amount of drag created by an inoperative engine. Let's call that drag 'D'. With both engines operating normally and producing 100% thrust, you get...

What to Expect on Oral for Add-on Rating

Pendant Alert! You still have 50% of the thrust (unless your engines have different thrust values from the start). Problem is that the dead engine is now producing more drag than the operating engine and the total required thrust necessary to get the same performance goes above 100% "normal"...

    GTN750 SAR function.

It is not that difficult to create user waypoints to make a creeping line or expanding square flight plan. Time consuming, perhaps, but not difficult. It is the convenience of the automation for which you are paying. Do you honestly expect them to donate the capability to you, regardless how...

Optimal timing for BATD hours during IFR rating

Yah this... Nothing says you cannot log more than 10 hours in a BATD, you just cannot count more than 10 of those hours toward the experience needed to apply for the ticket.

    Most cost effective TAA kit

The GNX375 screen is barely big enough to make for a good GPS. Cannot imagine trying to use it as an MFD, let alone a PFD. It does make a pretty good data source for an actual PFD, however.
