    Cirrus Turbo

And different for altitudes. 170 knots is slower than I ever saw. Here is 192 at 17,000 feet. 75% power. The turbo Cirrus is a beast. The NA… meh, just another vanilla high performance plane. ;-)

    Pilatus down in northeast Wyoming

Well that doesn't give much insight into what happened.

    SLC transition question

If you put Brigham City (LHO just like it is spelled) you miss the Bravo completely and stay over lower terrain. Some of the mountains east of SLC are well above 11.5. Your direct route takes you right over Kings Peak which is 13,528 feet elevation.

Talk Me Out of a Cirrus

Going places, hard to beat a Cirrus in the unpressurized world, as long as it holds what you want to take. The numbers you posted above seem a little slow. A well tuned Cirrus at FL180 should be closer to 200 knots. At least 190's. Has a great community with a lot of support from the COPA...

    Ozempic/Wegovy

Some clinics are practicing responsible medicine some aren’t. Ozempic prescribed appropriately can reduce risk of stroke and heart attack more than most heart specific drugs among other hard endpoint health benefits. Testosterone properly prescribed can improve muscle mass, bone density, memory...

    Grounded for not talking

I think that is related to the need to have clearances, ATC communications and such recorded.

    Grounded for not talking

I thought it was pretty standard to have a hand mic?? All of my planes have had them, but I can't recall if they are on the MMEL list. As to what I think per the OP is a lower time pilot, flying a plane in busy airspace with any degraded equipment is unnecessarily complicating the flight...

Trained in 172 and want to move to a Cirrus

You can train in a Cirrus. Will take longer, and be a lot more expensive, but in the end you will be pretty good in the Cirrus. Did I say a lot longer and a lot more expensive? I think with very long training, it can be easy to get discouraged and when discouraged entertain quitting...

Voepass Flight 2283, a large passenger plane, crashes in Vinhedo, Brazil

That is some ugly icing. The ice below the wing adds weight and drag, but the real danger is ice on top of the wing that kills lift, and you cant see that from the pictures. Looks like a close call. Caravan, I assume?

    Pilatus down in northeast Wyoming

My understanding. I have a whopping hour and change in the PC12, so no expert. But here from the POH.

    Pilatus down in northeast Wyoming

Not sure there is enough data out there to make such a statement. The PC12 is a complex aircraft with a lot of potential failure modes, and this could have been out of the realm of the pilots ability to fix the problem. The way that big moveable horizontal stab works, if it went full deflection...

    DA-22 down Oshkosh, pilot ok…

Have to try pretty hard to crash a DA42. Great, stable airplane. And to the post above the gear on that aircraft would be quite at home on a carrier based aircraft. See pic.

How to pronounce a ATC fix waypoints intersections

One of my favorites is in the south, Jawja. Pronounced just like a sophisticated southern gentleman would say Georgia. Is crazy woman still active? CZI, figured they would take that one out.

    Diversion Scenario:

I have declared some emergencies, have handled real medical emergencies on airliners, am a command pilot with Angelflight and have had to divert for a sick pax. I am also a critical care doctor. As said above, turning an urgency into an emergency and causing loss of separation can box everyone...

Five members of Georgia family killed (Piper PA-46 crash)

Most of that true, except the wings are plenty strong, and they slow down really well. Most have speed brakes, and even those that don’t, dropping the gear is like dropping 3 big speed brakes. Just don’t lose control and get into a spiral dive, which is how they usually break. Spiral dive, pull...

Five members of Georgia family killed (Piper PA-46 crash)

Nexrad is pretty good for long range planning, but up close use abundant caution. As long as you FULLY understand that Nexrad will show stuff that is not there, will sometimes not show stuff that is there, and anytime that it shows stuff it is never completely accurate as to location and...

    engine out, reducing drag

Definitely worth practicing engine out landings from cruise altitudes all the way to the runway. might need to pick a rural airport to make that happen, because coming in from 5 miles away simulated engine failure it is hard to fit into the pattern of a busy airport. But it’s a teachable and...

Practicing short field landings in gusting winds

I was kind of thinking the same thing as rhkennerly. Unless you’re on fire, there is really no reason to be doing a true short field landing in a gusty crosswind. But then, sometimes people do like doing those night instrument landings to minimums in the mountains, on a short field that is iced...
