    But what do you... do?

Great ideas for the bay tours. I'm sure my friends would love it. KHAF seems like a great place to go for breakfast or lunch if, as you say, the weather is actually VFR there. I'm planning to get a Cessna 182 checkout with the club and mountain flying checkouts shortly thereafter. I can...

    But what do you... do?

Wow! This is great! I love hearing what everyone is doing as pilots. After I get my license, my first plan is to take all of my friends on at least one trip somewhere. I've filled Foreflight with about 20-30 hours of flying just on little 2-4 hour trips here and there to do neat little...

    odd CTAF calls

I've heard that one a few times out here in the Bay. Think I even heard it at KHAF as well.

    But what do you... do?

I started this journey because i've always been enamored with flying. Dreamt of growing wings as a kid or becoming a bird. Got into R/C planes later in life a little. Now that I've come to the end of the solo cross country phase of my flight training, I feel amazing, like it's a dream come...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

I'm not sure why my post would remind you of that, because I'm not really sure of the two things being connected. Learning how to effect change in our environment, especially when that environment is harsh or damaging, strikes me not as arrogance, but as intelligence. It's why we invented...

    Crosswind landing pointers?

Oh, I don't think I'd ever critique my CFI negatively. He's really good. Or, at least, I'm feeling like I'm learning a lot from him.

    Crosswind landing pointers?

I just recently did my first solo, and it took forever to figure this out. My instructor kept explaining the control inputs, but I just couldn't keep it straight in my head. Left rudder, right aileron... no left aileron... For... wait... what? But then one day, I just sort of figured out...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

There's a lot of scary stuff that can/probably will happen as a result of the ongoing climate change, but to be honest, I think people overplay it a bit. I imagine there'll be big changes in the way we have to live as a society, but it will happen organically, and we'll adapt. Might be lots of...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

Hm... I might take a look at "Climate of Fear" later, but to be honest, I'm a bit skeptical of a book written by an economist 15 years ago. If one is looking for information in a field, you tend to talk to/read stuff from people actually in that field, in this case climate scientists. I'd...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

Don't mind me. I just love science, and learning about what's going on in the world. I get that you were making jokes. I just want to see what's *actually* happening now, and how aviation is being impacted by climate change. I haven't read that PDF, but probably will later, when I have...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

Yeah, but you were talking about climate change, which is a change in general weather patterns, perhaps in some places creating greater concentration of non-aviation friendly weather? Now you're getting me curious about the actual information on this.

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

I was just commenting that it may very well be a result of global warming that your friend is stuck over there. What you intended to be humor could actually be accurate! :P I mean, I don't know, I'm not a climate scientist. But I could totally believe it. EDIT: And I think it's interesting...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

I heard the media doing the same "ice caps melting, no more winters!" shouting for decades now, but I've never heard the same directly from scientists that actually study the thing. After working in Silicon Valley and having articles written about things I've worked on, I've come to learn...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

*shrugs* I dunno. They're the ones studying it, not me. :) In college, I did a small amount of research on chaotic systems and chaos mathematics, and can totally get that its hard to predict these sorts of complex systems. So it makes sense to me that they'd be revising their models over...

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

I'm no expert, but I believe the science says that global warming will impact weather throughout the year, create extreme cold and hot weather in both winter and summer, in various locations.

    Global warming thwarts helicopter flight

I don't get the joke. Extreme weather, such as more powerful snow storms and such, is a well known and predicted consequence of global warming.

    New student and motion sickness

Heh. When I went up on Sunday, I was doing most of the landings all by myself. My CFI thinks we're almost ready to solo. I don't know if I was overdoing the S turns or not. I wasn't doing them steep. Just 30, 20, 10, etc. It was just the back and forth turning, combined with turbulence...

    New student and motion sickness

At this point, I'm doing most of the controls. The CFI only takes the controls to show me new maneuvers, or to fix my landings. And thanks for the welcome!

    New student and motion sickness

Yeah, it only bugs me when we've been doing a lot of intense maneuvers, especially turning or spinning in any way. Like, a lot of pattern work will get me a bit queasy. But doing just two steep turns makes me feel horrible. I actually get this when driving, too, but only on steep mountain...
