Advice to all of you back yard grillers!

I’ve been a long term subscriber to wiping the hot grill down with the wad of aluminum foil. It takes off the worst of the carbonized remains, but doesn’t over do it.

    Sam's Club Blue Jeans

Ouch. So the federal government requires that automotive gasoline contain a “detergent” to reduce the build up of combustion products in the engine. They don’t specify what the detergent has to be, but they specify maximum acceptable deposit accumulation during a test cycle on an engine of...

    Sam's Club Blue Jeans

Friends who work union baggage handling at least at one point pretty much always wore new balance, because at the time, they were essentially the only sneaker shop still producing some shoes in the US. Apparently nobody bothered to check of the versions they were wearing were actually made in...

Could I ignite a helium balloon by shooting a model rocket at it?

I thought that was the store with all the good stuff.

Could I ignite a helium balloon by shooting a model rocket at it?

Smokeless powder and gunpowder both have burn rates that depend on pressure, but more so for smokeless. At atmospheric pressure, both are more what I would call a vigorous burn. And yes, powdered particulate fires like flower or creamer are much more energetic at atmospheric pressure.

    Just toss it in reverse...

My recollection is that the modern Wilgas, made this century, not back in the 50’s and 60’s was all of 24 produced. He owned the first one, sold it, and later bought the last one after they went out of production. I suspect some others have also ground looped, so what, maybe 18, or now 17 of...

(Car) Tire Review: Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady

I have definitely had some Firestone’s go wonky, with the tread shifting sideways on the carcas. But I suspect I may have exceeded their speed rating more than once. Something about Texas speed limits.

Bought my wife a Caterpillar D4

There is something to be said about plenty of available cranking time to build oil pressure with compression released, then continue building heat cranking with compression, and then starting. It would seem ideal for long engine life.

What would you like to add to your arsenal?

Those skeets filled their life mission with purpose. The ones that hit the ground are the sad ones. They still gave their all, but it wasn’t enough to hit the mark. :D

What would you like to add to your arsenal?

For CC, I’m perplexed by the 19x. At least for me, carrying IWB, it isn’t the slide length that is usually the difficult part to hide, but the grip. And going from a 19 grip frame to a 17 grip frame doesn’t improve my shooting anything like the improvement of going from a 19 to 17 sight...

I’ve driven enough hydraulic clutches that are self adjusting that I had to think about this for a bit. As I remember, and the logic of the mechanism seems to align: as the clutch wears, that slop is taken up. You need to maintain at least some slop so that the clutch pedal and cable are...

What would you like to add to your arsenal?

It also occurs to me that I only have one 10/22, and it is a weak mind that can’t figure out at least 3 ways to dress one out.

    what’s in your arsenal?

I have a start of a collection. Is interesting when it starts being less about filing possible missions, and more about what is fun to shoot, or looks good in the collection, or other criteria. It is almost more difficult in some ways.

What would you like to add to your arsenal?

A GP100 in 22LR is also on my sometime list. Though the closest revolver I own is a SP101 in 357, but want the 10 rounds if I do a 22 wheel gun. I’m guessing I will never see one used. For a really nice 22 handgun, I absolutely love my Ruger Mark IV hunter. Everyone who has tried it shoots...

    Binge-Watching Airplane Repo

I’m guessing that in part, possibly for some of them, the pitch is never accurate, and some found they sold their soul for a lot less than they would have, if they had realized up front.

Racing fuel tank? Is this a safety fuel cell? If so, they have limited lifespans. For racing, under most sanctioning bodies, apparently it is only 5 years from the date of manufacture, and apparently with the foam in bladder construction, they are only serviceable for 5 to 8 years. About 3/4...

How about spending a few minutes probing it with a straight pick and a bent pick to see if it feels like it intersects any passages? There may be more than one variant depending on what it was origionally installed in. Then if it feels solid, use a rubber tipped blow gun to pressurize it and...

    Broken A/C - upgrades!

I clearly read or interpreted one of your comments wrong. Around here, natural gas is cheap enough that the only people with heat pumps are the areas developed in the 80’s or 90’s when gas prices were high enough that builders saw no benefit to bringing gas to the new subdivisions. For split...
