What are your personal minimums for a no approach airport?

Makes a real difference if it's in mountainous or hilly terrain or the flatlands.

While reading up on Airplane Multi Engine Land…

Ah yes, Aztec days. The ones I used to fly had a 5200# gross and Metco tips which had an extra 24 gallons per side. Flying along at night in the dead of winter and in icing conditions, getting startled by the bang as the props would sling chunks of ice onto the fuselage sides. Picking my way...

    Too close for comfort!

Welcome to the big city, that's why we keep our heads on a swivel and our eyes open and do clearing turns. Don't let it get you spooked, learn and move on.

Anyone here flying into known icing?

I saw this in a hangar once.

What are the lateral and vertical boundaries?

Inside the yellow or green airspace only, everything else is outside.

When they can take off when the bird's don't even fly

I believe one of the most beautiful filmed classics of aviation films, "Strategic Air Command' with Jimmy Stewart had a GCA at the ending with his B-47.

Anyone fly in to Augusta during Masters week?

I haven't been to Agusta in some years now but I've been there during the tournament and remember it as a steady stream of corporate iron. They have a real nice FBO with extra staff of course during the tournament. I was last at Aiken about 7 years ago during the tounament and it was busy too...

When they can take off when the bird's don't even fly

Generally a good movie with good actors. It's interesting to see Berlin in ruins as it was back then, it took decades to rebuild after the war. There's an interesting scene showing a GCA approach into Tempelhof. I've done a couple of those at the local airport because the tower was run by the...

    Short Field landing

It's not the bank angle as much as the turn coordination that needs work. At 2:52 I saw the ball move from one side to the other side. Unless you're going from a skidding turn to a slip to compinsate for a left crosswind, you shouldn't need to do that. The left wing low for the x-wind part is...

Guidance PPL - IFR - Commercial - Best way to make a $$$ return on training?

Not a criticism, just a suggestion so you fit in better. "biprop" = twin engine or multi-engine. I'll let the other people who may be currently involved with beginning Commercial type jobs comment about that question.

    Taxiway landing video.

Some years ago I used to occasionally land in the grass between the runway and taxiway at my home field. Of course I knew the area very well, and it was before the tower came in and frowned upon such things. If it were a full blown emergency, like an engine failure after TO, I would not...

Initial climb with a constant speed prop

As always, the POH and safety take precedence over anything else. But, all airports have noise issues and I would suggest you pull the prop back some as soon as possible so you don't fly like an AH.

    Managing Proficiency

My situation is somewhat different from most pilots here. I've only flown for work in the past years and I get yearly training for that. I haven't flown any SE planes in quite some time so I don't go out to do anything like what you said. Renting is too expensive, checkout costs on top of...

    Managing Proficiency

If you believe it's in your best interest to continue to keep proficient and learn, then by all means do it. Don't let talking to the wrong people set you back. I'm not too familiar with the Wings program but you could always learn some of the Commercial maneuvers, even if you have no intention...

    Memorable Resturants on/near field

Air Transport Command at Wilmington DE, ILG. Long gone for about 10 years now, they had a C-47 out front and a few military vehicles in front of the French Chateau. It wasn't the food as much as all the old photos covering the walls. All from WWII and many of WASP's and the planes. They had...
