    XC Requirements for PPL Certificate

The requirement for a XC is 50nm, that's written in ink in the regs, both you and your instructor should know that. Sorry, but that's the way it is. Fly the additional XC and use it for the experience, you and everyone else at your stage can use it. Next time if you think you're going to come up...

    Aztec mei needed

That's a great looking Aztec. The Aztec isn't the fastest or sleekest looking twin, not like the 310 or Baron, but it's a hauler. It's a pickup truck, it'll get the job done hauling a load out of shorter strips, or carry more ice than the 310 can. I flew a few Aztecs some years ago for charter...

KWVI Watsonville MId Air, Multiple Fatalities

Your 120-130 kts in your 182 is approach speed on final, farther out it may be more. Don't confuse the 200 kts speed for jets as in that close, it's some miles farther out. Many times at the larger airports it's 170 kts until the marker or a 5 mile final. Desending and approaching an airport...

Straight in finals..is that a good idea?

Don't be fearful of operating into (dare I say it) "uncontrolled" airports. Pilots have been operating safely into and out of those kinds of fields for decades. Some pilots can fly and navigate safely without someone constantly holding their hand 24/7.

    After Effects of Cataract Surgery

Been there and done that with the surgery and the Prednisone for my PMR, no change with my BP.

    Standard Rate/Bank Angle

I once did a 360 on the ILS LOC before the FAF because approach didn't get me down in time. Sometimes you do what you have to do.

Tailwheel Endorsement: J3 Cub or C-140?

The Cessna will be slightly more familar to you with your past experience, side by side seating versus tandem seating in the Cub. If you're thinking about renting afterwards then wives or girfriends usually prefer to sit side by side with their sweeties. If you fly the Cub then fly it from both...

Didn't you get a temporary certificate?

    Minneapolis airports

You may not have been there since Cirrus was bought out by Lynx, which is now Atlantic on the very north side of the field. STP is also a good choice, and not that far from downtown Minneapolis. STP has Signature and St Paul Flight Center. Both good FBOs, but Flight Center may have lesser fees...

KANE, Anoka County is right on the freeway to either downtowns, just 30 minutes away.

My usual viewpoint of St Paul MN after taking off on 32 and climbing out southbound. Looking straight west with STP at the bottom and MSP airport top left. Both downtowns are STP right center and MSP top right, with the Mississippi River winding inbetween. Taken on 1-3-2019

That's my home base for work. What were you in town for? There's a huge "Back to the 50's" car show at the State Fair grounds this weekend. Yesterday was beautiful, today is forecast to be hot.

    Aeronca down in rural MO(fatal)

Aw crap, I know that plane. I just spoke to the owner about 4-5 months ago on FB about his plane. He posted a photo of this plane that I recognized, I think he owned it about a year or less. He worked as a crop duster pilot as far as I can tell. I knew the pilot who restored that plane in the...

    Spanaway

My friend and I flew some cargo in there sometime back in the 80's. We didn't realize until we got there that the runway width listed was for the grass and the pavement part was just wide enough to clear the Aztec's gear. While we were there we watched a Pitts TO and climb out inverted. Cool place.

Congratulations! Looks like you did it at Sky Harbor too, what a beautiful area. I have about 60 hours in the Twin Beech many years ago, fun to fly but not for work the way we did.

    How does Elon Musk’s G650 land and T/O on a 4,800’ runway?

Take off and climb performance is all predicated on weight, altitude and temp. You can't change the altitude at Hawthorn, and most passengers don't want to change their schedule to TO in the cooler mornings and you can't kick off passengers, so all you have to work with is weight, which means...

    Annual Fees?

That's part of your problem right there, the part that's bolded. No, there is no "equation" for an annual inspection unless we know what kind of plane, what kind of shape it's in and which shop you take it to. Then we could give you some rough guidlines on what it may cost for the inspection...

Anyone in the Phoenix area - KDVT or KSDL?

If that's on the west side then I think that's where they moved to. Instead of one or two busy schools there's one of the smaller ones left, at least that's my impression. There is a noticable difference in the amount of traffic from before. Looks like I'll be back there again next week and...

Anyone in the Phoenix area - KDVT or KSDL?

I get into DVT about 6 or so times every winter, the last was about 1 month ago. SDL is busy with lots of corporate and a mix of smaller GA. DVT is no longer busy because the large flight school (airline puppy mill) moved to a field on the west side of town. It used to have a dozen planes in the...
