Well, I certainly found the most expensive way to get to Florida.

A CFI I know mentioned to me once that he was flying with a student, who owned his own plane with a glass cockpit and synthetic vision, and his student was doing an ILS approach. He challenged the student to keep the foggles on almost all the way to the runway, with the CFI acting as a good...

    Unnamed airport

That’s why I ask. I thought there was some three letter code you use to designate an off-site landing. I seem to recall someone mentioning that once years ago but don’t recall the details.

Getting my CSEL in a Cessna 150

If you’re getting a Cherokee 180 with dual G5s, a Garmin AP and a GTN 750 for $90 an hour wet, that’s an absolute steal. Unless your absolutely tight on cash I would choose the well equipped Cherokee.

Well, I certainly found the most expensive way to get to Florida.

This has to be one of my biggest fears while flying. But hey, this is a good argument for having synthetic vision like with a G3X or Skyview.

    Thoughts on current airplane market

I’ll speak from the perspective of someone who financed. I bought my plane in 2012 financing about 85% of it. If I had saved to pay cash who knows if I would have ever been able to keep up with the cost of the plane. I paid $82k in 2012 and today that plane would be worth about $110k today had I...

    UAvionix AV-30-C in Cherokee

That’s a very nice set up you have. I was really considering this product for a while before I went with the Skyview.

    which iPad

I think it depends on your cockpit size and how good your eyes are. I drive a Mooney and the iPad mini works very well for me.

    Need help leaning by EGT

Mike Busch does a very in-depth video about how to lean. I learned from him about 9 years ago by reading and listening to his method. I highly recommend watching this webinar.

Anyone using Dynon Skyview HDX with WingX Pro?

Are you using the $35 Dynon wifi module to connect to your iPad? I have the Skyview HDX now and when I tried to connect my iPad I didn’t see a wifi signal from the Dynon Skyview.

    NorCal avionics shops

I have my Mooney up in Grants Pass at Baker Avionics. You’re certainly closer than I am and I felt it was worth the drive. Greg, the owner, is a great guy to deal with. I’m having dual Dynon Skyview HDX screens installed (10” and 7”) plus the engine monitor. I should be picking up my plane in 2...
