    Aspen

From the tech conversation I had with Aspen yesterday, there were a few where the shorter cable fix was employed with success. I got the impression that they are now using a thicker cable also as a result of this. I can only guess on why the older RSMs are less affected by signal loss BUT I'll...

    C182 TruTrak auto pilot

Spoke with an Aspen Tech rep and he said the issue is with the excess length of cabling and signal loss (there is about 12 feet of extra cable looped in rear bulkhead). Also, there was thinner cabling used on some of the initial units. Aspen will pay to have cable shortened and/or replaced as...

    C182 TruTrak auto pilot

It's the original display but the original RSM proved bad as did 4 others that were tried before they sent an older, used GPS RSM that worked. The E5 is hooked through a new Avidyne 440 which has been functioning flawlessly and was working on both occasions. The big Xs were only there for about...

    C182 TruTrak auto pilot

I've updated this post as they contacted me and found the issue which turned out to be a too long (and thin) cable to the RSM. They are working on taking care of my unit.

    Dual comms?

No requirement, I flew a Mooney for many years with a single radio. Suggest for your back up handheld you have ability to hook to headset. Another thing you might consider is leaving the BNC wire accessible from the 2nd radio so you can hook to handheld if needed.

    Mounting the stratux

I had removed an ADF and a Loran way back so I had 2 empty trays. I velcroed it inside the tray and use the longer remote antennas suction cupped to the side windscreen glass. There's a large Ipad pro mounted in front of the empty trays. Basically, nothing to keep you from mounting it remotely...

    June 1, 2019 what will a GNS430W cost?

GNS = (Garmin No Service)...I think the predicted demise is a bit premature. There are loads out there and pilots are used to working with them. I don't think the prices will drop that much and as others have stated, it may behoove some to purchase a spare. The used 300XL nav/coms still get...

    semipermanent RAM mount

Industrial strength velcro might work for you also and easier to claim as portable. Here's another option for a phone that can clamp to the lip on the glareshield. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H4J5T6P/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Anyone have an Aspen E5 Installed?

Pulled pump, vac gauge, vac filters, hoses, AI and DG. After install of Aspen, it amounts to a 6.2 lb savings. I had a KX155 and DME replaced by an Avidyne 440 and my Century 21 a/p was pulled for a TruTrak (2 servos instead of one) The blower assembly was also pulled out of the back of the...

Avionics- What systems would YOU do?

Lynn...I'm not sure on the actual wiring. Without the TruTrak Aspen integration yet I'm told the TruTrak head will have to be sent back for updating. There was no mention made on re-wiring so my assumption is that there is a data wire between the 2. The TruTrak is currently getting it's info...

Anyone have an Aspen E5 Installed?

Currently I've got the GPS RSM on it which works great. The serial numbers I saw seem a lot different from Lynns (one was #3). I test flew it yesterday but I'm actually flying it home today (150 nm away). They will eventually ship a new unit and RSM to shop and I'll need to fly back for install...

Anyone have an Aspen E5 Installed?

Got to fly my plane today for first time and I feel the wait was worth it. The Aspen E5 is an excellent choice, especially for the money. Great, super clear display and simple to use. Saint aviation did a great job and stuck to the agreed upon price even given all the extra work they had to do.

    EGT Differential

Check the position of where they drilled for the probes also..It's possible they are closer to the exhaust valves on the odd cylinders.

    Dynon Update

They are a good, well meaning company with great products and service but they are slow to get things done and rarely hit promise dates (this was in the free wheeling experimental market). They were new to the certified market and were making poor decisions on how they sell to certified aircraft...

SureFly Electronic Mag - who has one?

Although it just got certified, they have been in experimentals for years. Fairly basic stuff since they use aviation plugs and the Slick cap and harness. I was awaiting the STC to purchase and not concerned about the newness to certified, especially since the FAA really put them through the...
