I wanna get high... No turbo though

I have always been able to make up any time lost in climb on the decent. I always just keep my power to roughly cruise rpm (fixed pitch prop) and just descend at a higher airspeed. Sure this won’t work for higher performance planes but has always worked in trainers for me. You can still make it...

    Rough Landings today!

Busy now so might be back for my full insight but two quick things. 1. I don’t care how early in your training you are, if you think you should go around, do it. Go arounds all the way through airliners can be called out by either pilot and it is initiated, it does not need agreement or an...

    Would you?

That’s fair I just think you know what you’re getting into with water at least and can prepare somewhat well. Ditching in day VFR is obviously dangerous and yes something I personally go to great lengths to ensure I will never do, but also has a sort of surprisingly high survival rate. The idea...

    Would you?

Actually looking for someone to explain this to me because my own opinion doesn’t seem to make sense. I would never fly more than gliding distance off shore single engine, yet I fly single engine at night fairly often and feel fine. realistically I think my chances in a ditching (if I had a life...

How can I work on radio communications at home?

Not quite ATC but a weird thing that took me forever to learn was listening to, copying down, and comprehending ATIS broadcasts. Would recommend finding the phone number for a local ATIS and just copying it down whenever you have a few mins to spare

    New Cirrus CEO

Welp there you go again, thought I knew more about a topic than I did. Tbf, never flown a low wing plane I just thought I had a better grasp than I did evidently. Lesson learned

    New Cirrus CEO

Fuel selectors is pretty logical to me with pressurized fuel tanks. If it were to switch automatically, when would it do it? If it switched super frequently to make the tanks always even it would put undue wear and tear on the system, but if it waited longer I’m not sure when it would do it.

Flight school in college or after?

Personally never been a huge fan of schools like ERAU, especially if you don’t even have your PPL yet. I have seen way too many people starting their PPL journey ready to go all the way through to the airlines and not make it. Please don’t commit that hard. Also, you can go to a much cheaper...

What was your favorite part of you flight training for your Private Pilots License?

Probably the closest I had gotten and still have gotten to a true emergency. Pre-solo stage check actually. As I was entering the pattern my engine started coughing pretty heavily. Pretty instantly felt a strange calm come over me and I immediately started trouble shooting as I was trained...

    Instrument Checkride Tomorrow

Take this advice with a grain of salt, because it may be very specific to the DPE ive had both both checkrides, but I would always say its better to admit when you dont know something and go through where to find it rather than trying to BS your way through it. For instance, I simply never saw...

    IFR Learning Experience

Went through some similar lessons after getting my IR ticket. First off, I would recommend getting the full booklet of approaches for whatever region you are in and just keeping them with you. May not be the “best” way of doing it, but realistically approaches dont change that often and since it...

A real "Hold my beer" NTSB report...

Curious why there was no (recorded) interview of the 3 passengers who sustained “serious injuries”

Another new guy- and another med question

Just saying, he helped me more with my neurological problem than the head of johns hopkins neurology did‍♂️ Also he never claimed to know it was this, just that he saw something wrong and worked to fix it which was more than any of the medical doctors i had seen were able to do. Dont get me...

Another new guy- and another med question

His theory (based off one of my xrays in particular) was that one of my vertebrae was twisted and making contact with my spinal cord.

Another new guy- and another med question

Actually yes i reported all of that for my medical. It all went away just over 2 years before i got my medical, and what reason would they have to deny me a medical? I was never diagnosed, and i had literally every test under the sun done from blood work to a 24 hour long EEG all of which said i...

Another new guy- and another med question

I really am sorry if i sound like a loony to you after this but I thought it needed to be said. A few years ago I had some pretty severe symptoms that went completely undiagnosed. Severe memory loss(would frequently forget hours of my day at a time), chronic fatigue(slept 18 hours a day for...

What can I be doing wrong on power off stalls?

Ok, I have a few corrections to things I’ve seen in this thread. Let me preface this with the fact that I am not a CFI, but i did recently return from one of the best upset recovery programs out there (aviation performance solutions) where we did on site training in an Extra 300. So here I go...

    Proficiency Q's

Don't have too many pilot friends so struggle to find a safety pilot unless i pay a CFI (which of course i will if i deem myself no longer proficient). But yes i absolutely recommend shooting approaches in VFR even if you don't have a safety pilot. Honestly sometimes harder since you still have...

    New iPad for Flying

I have the 10.5 inch ipad pro (idk what year), and personally think its too big for what i fly (172s). It honestly just gets in the way a lot and is a hassel when landing or manuvering. Also if you can afford it would definitely recommend the ipad with gps built in (its just the celleular). You...
