    Well done! Looks great.

    Cessna 150 Rotax Conversion

OK, the overheating caught my attention because I'm saving up to buy an LSA. A bunch of Googlin seems to indicate that it depends on the mounting. Some manufacturers rarely have the problem, others have it commonly. (That's judging from type forum posts on the Web.) The type of coolant makes a...

    [NA]Auto insurance claims: the process[NA]

Our family ran an insurance agency back in my hometown in NC. I worked there off and on for many years, and dealt with a lot of claims. I was even a licensed agent for a while, doing radio work on the side. Hurricane Fran cured me of that, though. (I had people living in hotels, their homes...

    Hogan Assessment (???)

Having read this, my new dream is to have @nauga take this test. Me? I always mess with interviewers to see how THEY react to ME. I wouldn't be a good fit in a large, touchy-feely, politically-acceptable organization. I just have fun with the interview.

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

... people have ferried aircraft to Hawaii for decades using big ferry tanks, especially Cessna 17x and 18x models. As I recall, this guy had trouble with the fuel selector on his ferry tank. (Or was that the case with the girl who had to ditch a while back? Can't remember.) The fact that he had...

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

You've probably seen this, but watch closely. This is the guy who ran out of fuel back in 2015 trying to make it to Hawaii. The link should be set to start at about 1:18. If not, fast forward. Splashdown is around the 1:45 mark. Edit: I copied the link "with current time," but it starts at...

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

It's interesting that when the media talks about "planes" and "parachutes" (sorry for the quotes, I know how much you love them ;)), they always focus on Cirrus/CAPS. I know that's where most of the US data is found, but as I said above, there are other airplanes that have come stock with...

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

I couldn't find sales information on line. I'm sure that BRS is indeed the market leader, thanks to Cirrus, if nothing else. But for the record, BRS does have competition, primarily in Europe. Pipistrel uses Magnum chutes (developed by Junkers). There's a Czech company called Galaxy High that...

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

I don't know, either. I guess it's a judgment call. Part of what Cirrus hammers into their owner's heads is that if there's any doubt, the safest thing is just to pull the red handle. The reason why so many early-model Cirrus crashes resulted in fatalities is because pilots were trying to fly a...

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

The National Institutes of Health have published a study. According to them, the parachute definitely saves lives. As usual, they only focus on Cirrus, which is a shame, because a number of LSAs have them as standard equipment now (Pipistrel and Flight Design, to name two)...

My epic cross country flight in a humbling little airplane...

I really enjoy reading about trips like this. I'm following @Katamarino on his around-the-world flight. But that sentence above, thus far, is the winner. :)

    Airplane down at Addison (KADS)

The doctors here can explain this better than I, but Klonopin and Effexor aren't drugs that are taken casually. If you've been taking them for any length of time, you can't stop them cold turkey without withdrawal. If there were even traces in the pilot's blood, its very likely they were taken...

    American Airlines retiring the MD80

Delta uses the 717s for many of the flights that my wife and I take. We love all of the old DC-9 derivatives, including the MDs. Big, comfortable, loud as a bomb, but comfortable.
