"Any landing you can walk away fr-" "Hush"

Cpt_Kirk, while watching the video I kept glancing back and forth to your avatar and it really fit. Cracked me up! BTW, my first attempts to land my RV-8 looked very similar. Glad they weren't caught on film.

    Robocalls getting out of hand.

I started getting occasional calls on my iPhone a few months ago, and then it became at least one a day. I installed RoboKiller about a week ago and the calls stopped.

What makes a pilot do this?

Wow. Just wow. I'll help you understand: That guy is an idiot.

    My Unusual Attitude/Aerobatic Training Experience...

Well, that settles it. I've been thinking of doing this ever since I bought my RV-8 and now I'm DEFINITELY going to do it. Dagmar Kress, a very gifted aerobatic pilot, is based one hangar row away from me and gives similar instruction in her Pitts S-2C. I'll be ringing her up once the weather...

Choosing a CFI... old guy/gal or young guy/gal?

I'm going to add another +1 to this. Sums it up perfectly. Age doesn't matter.

Endangered Species - Retractable Piston Singles?

You're absolutely right. I buy all my airplanes "gently used." The Acclaim was 3 years old and had 300 hours on it when I bought it. Paid about 56% of new for essentially a new airplane. For my budget and mission you can't beat the cost/performance ratio.

Endangered Species - Retractable Piston Singles?

Wrong POH. That's for an Acclaim, not an Acclaim Type S. Here's the corresponding page from my POH: I've also bumped mine from 280hp to 310hp, but that improves takeoff performance and climb rate, not top speed. I love my retract Mooney at least as much as gsengle loves his, but objectively...

    Time to name drop

Brooke Shields - we were Princeton classmates. Clint Eastwood - Rode with him in Warner Brothers' G5 from Monterey to Burbank back in 1998 or so. Tons of Denver Broncos players and coaches, including Mike Shanahan, John Elway, Terrell Davis. A friend of mine used to work for them and got me into...

Hangar for Rent at Denver Centennial

It's all about supply and demand. I've owned the hangar for 11 years and have been renting it for 6, and it has never sat vacant for more than a month.

Hangar for Rent at Denver Centennial

No, I'm in Alpha row. The only thing on my hangar door right now is the "For Rent" sign. :)

Hangar for Rent at Denver Centennial

My longtime tenant sold his Mooney to buy a twin and my hangar's not big enough for that, so my hangar is now available for rent. It's a Port-a-Port T-hangar. Good location on the east ramp, just south of the tower. Faces east so no snow or ice issues most of the time. Sorry, no heat or power...

Flying west in an NA single

Based in Denver and have spent my entire 32 year flying career in the western US, so here goes.... Murphey's advice to get most of the way there is solid and I would echo that. I recommend a loop where you take his southerly route outbound and then return via his northerly route. This will...

Harrison Ford avoids enforcement action for taxiway landing

I think my wife has Perimenopause at 48

My wife entered this death spiral at about 44. After three months of misery she had full evaluations from her OB/GYN and female hormone specialists, and was prescribed a cocktail of hormones and meds to get her back on track. She continues to be re-evaluated on a regular basis, and our lives...

Looking for PPL training in a tailgragger

Can't help you with an instructor but I think it's awesome you're getting your PPL in a taildragger. I wish I did, now that I've finally learned how to fly them.

    Reasons Why People Were Dumped

Funny, my wife calls it "cold slaw" too, but since English is her fifth language I give her a pass. :) Some of her mangled English words make more sense than the ones they replace: "damp" instead of "dam" "obeast" instead of "obese" "comatoast" instead of "comatose" "self steam" instead of...

    [rant]Virtual Spin Class[/rant]

Virtual workouts are a sham. I watched the P90X videos 3 times start to finish and didn't lose a single pound. Seriously, though, I purchased a BitGym membership and it's pretty cool for winter workouts on my spin bike. It streams videos of bike rides to my iPad and the iPad camera detects your...

    NavCanada vs. US ATC: Opinions?

Today an opinion piece came out in the Wall Street Journal that was strongly in favor of privatizing the US air traffic control system, and it touted NavCanada as a shining, successful example of why we should do so. I'd be curious to hear from pilots on both sides of the border who are familiar...

Living next to a construction site for over a year (beep beep beep beep)

I agree with the OP 100%. Over the last 4 years several homes were built in my neighborhood and the noise from the backup beepers was incessant and ridiculously annoying. Most of it came from lone earth movers digging out the basements with no other people or vehicles on site. My new drone has...
