What to expect IFR from the NW into and out of KSNA?

Fltplan.com and ForeFlight can give you common routes to expect. Winds at KSNA generally favor runway 20. Departures don't require high climb rates. Have fun!

    Mooney speeds

As an Acclaim owner I can vouch for this, except my speeds are a bit lower. I fly high teens and flight plan 200 KTAS LOP and 210 KTAS ROP, and I fly LOP almost all the time.

    Normal pulse oximeter reading

Here's an interesting data point. My wife and I live in Denver (5300' above sea level) and just last week returned from a trip to Peru. While in Peru we stayed at Lake Titicaca for 3 nights, elevation 12,500'. Upon check-in at our hotel they took our pulse oximeter readings. Mine was 93 and my...

Ever fly with plane overloaded? Experiences?

Two Irish hunters from Chicago hired a pilot to fly them to Canada to hunt moose. They bagged six. As they started loading the plane for the return trip home, the pilot tells them the plane can take only three moose. The two Irishmen objected strongly, stating; "Last year we shot six moose and...

    Bay Area tour recommendations

This outfit operates out of Sausalito, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. I watch their Beaver take off and land from my deck. It's a beautiful bird and it would be an excellent experience. http://www.seaplane.com/

How many times do you correct your tail number before giving up.

My Mooney's tail number is N3833T. Confused controllers more often than not, so I started saying, very slowly, "Mooney tree eight tree tree tango" and that seems to help.

Practical Implications of Light Signal Restriction

I passed the light gun test and carry a SODA for defective color vision, but I've never been confident in my ability to see light gun signals in a NORDO situation. Years ago I had a complete electrical failure in my Mooney. I was on an IFR flight plan from Denver to Napa (in VFR conditions) and...

    Tailwheel training...ideal world question

I didn't learn tailwheel until 30 years after I got my PPL. I wish I would have learned it a lot sooner, if not first. It's just really fun, and nothing to be afraid of.

What is the likelihood that a GA pilot could.....

My uncle used to be an instructor for United and back in 2000 he took me to their simulator facility here in Denver. He talked me down from 35,000' over Reno to a pretty good landing at SFO. This was in the 747 simulator. I think it can be done and I think your odds are much better if you're...

why do some types endorse LOP ops?

My Acclaim has the TSIO-550G engine with tuned injectors. The cylinders run very balanced and LOP operation is a breeze. The POH doesn't talk about ROP or LOP.
