Sharing Aviation (give me 2 minutes of your time)

Your are a great man. I'm very happy that the 4 of you were able to enjoy that experience. The universe colluded greatly

    Old symbols on sectional (1963)

Huh! Auburn was private! Wonder what the hangar rent was. Don't ask what it is now.

    Fun Lesson Today

Okay, I'll have to admit that's kinda badass. OP, your flight is also badass. That's a great skill to pass on to us mortal knuckle dragging propeller heads. :) My old man taught me that skill. His 65hp J4 he learned to fly in was working hard in the summer with 2 corn fed linebackers...

Adsb Vs Eyeballs in spotting aircraft called out by ATC

Oh how do I love hollerin "tally-ho!!" every time ATC calls traffic or when the wife points it out. I holler it especially slow and loud enough to over modulate my mic when flying the work planes. Makes me sound.... This is all BS, I can't use that term and not feel like a total donkey...

    High DA takeoffs

I am very sure of it. I was regarding engine power/use alone, and not relating anything to airspeed.

    High DA takeoffs

....... Because, that engine is making sea level power at whatever DA the airplane feels. I do not lean any engines at full power while it is at SL regardless of what the altimeters reads.

    O-470-U TBO of 2000 hours?

If the engine is healthy, probably will go way past 2000 hrs. The oil analysis trend, filter inspections, and engine IRANs in the log will give good indication on the engine's health. Plus, is it being flown regularly and correctly? Too many engines get euthanized because of the OWT TBO...

Airliner pressurization at high altitude airports

Maybe. Depends on the airplane and climb requirements. What airplane are you taking about? Some, (most?) airliners have some system limitation that requires a trick of the system to allow operations at high alt airports. The ones I've flown at high alt required a bleeds off takeoff. So, the...

DIY Action Camera Car Roof Mount

Hmm. Now I'm interested in the camera rig, telemetry, back story, decision to use a black Sole :) I fancy a belly rig for the same thing on the Sierra. On an angle, fly 360s and gain data for real 360 3D stuff.

    R/C Car project question

RC10 still in production! And the BlackFoot? I remember building them with my dad about 33 years ago. Best winter project to this day. Literally drove the tires off them. Learned all sorts of stuff, soldering, charging, bearings, and - patience. Ugh. That's the worst as a 10 year old. I...

What a shame. Right when the company was starting to take off, too.

The wisdom of flying: random lesson #37

Nothing wrong with sun block on the arms, too. My first year as copilot, my right arm needed some funky stuff burned off by the dermatologist. After a year in the left seat, back again for the ritualistic arm burning. Turns out, the side windows in millions of dollars priced airliners do not...

    Do plastic owls work?

Walked around Lake Hood yesterday just to look at the owl perched on the top of the prop. This Cub hasn't moved in many moons and no bird poop anywhere on it. So it's settled. Plastic owls work. :)

Landing a trike on gravel bars

Isn't "pushing the envelope" a logical endeavor in of itself? Thomas Wolfe wrote about it in The Right Stuff regarding the engineering idiom that got us to the Moon with relative safety. Is safety in the eye of the beholder? Now, if BC182 decided to try this in my Sierra, I'd pause with...

I Truely Like How Thinks Were Made 60 Years Ago

Is it safe to say, "good thing they make airplanes the way they used to in the good ol'days!"?
