    Low-cost, portable CO detector?

Yes. I haven't done more calibration type tests, but it continues to give similar results to what I have seen from it all along. Zero to a few ppm on the ground until I lean fully, and nothing in the air.

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

Great trip. Thanks for sharing. I was surprised the first time I visited Old Rhinebeck how much the visitor experience felt like a "down-home" activity. The vintage planes and aerial displays are great. And, if you're old enough to remember the "Little Rascals" series, the visitor facilities...

Lightspeed QFR XC dual plug headset cable replacement

My old Lightspeed QFR XC (ANR) headset must be aware of the recent posts asking about repairs of Peltor and Bose headsets, and not wanting to be left out, has begun to split along the sheathing of its dual plug cables. The cable in question is terminated with a tiny white plastic plug that plugs...

Ground testing to help isolate cause of weak radio transmissions

Thanks for the input. My SWR meter is actually capable of measuring RF power output. But I need the help of a shop to do the work (will explain later). So I contacted three prominent local avionics shops and each one told me that transmission output power couldn't be measured reliably and...

ADS-B PAPR performance report failed on Kinematics...implications?

Thanks, John. Did they publish this information somewhere, or was it a private communication? Seems to be something worth telling us about.

Bar Harbor ME Island Explorer Shuttle

I spoke with the Bar Harbor FBO today. They told me that the shuttle is a good option for transport to the city, and that when we plan to be there on Labor Day the airport and town are going to be crowded. Based on that I didn't ask about a crew car.

ADS-B PAPR performance report failed on Kinematics...implications?

All of those were within limits. I plan to keep flying it until either the plane's ADS-B performance is questioned by ATC, or I get an indication that the system either shows up as NPE on a PAPR report, or I get a letter of failure from the FAA.

ADS-B PAPR performance report failed on Kinematics...implications?

Thanks to all who responded. Particularly 4RNB, JoeSelch, and John Collins with your direct experiences. I will keep on flying, but will check PAPR reports periodically to see if the situation changes (for the better, or worse :) ).

ADS-B PAPR performance report failed on Kinematics...implications?

Yes, one a year. Not on each anniversary, though. I tried to collect data during different seasons and weather conditions to confirm that the system was operating properly under all normal flight conditions The PAPR users guide is pretty brief about Kinematics failures. Only saying that they...

ADS-B PAPR performance report failed on Kinematics...implications?

I want to do the right and legal thing...whatever that is. And I would like to keep flying the plane. But I can't find much online about what the requirements are. I recognize that aircraft with ADS-B out systems must operate those systems at all times in flight (unless they have prior...

ADS-B PAPR performance report failed on Kinematics...implications?

Unless there is something I don't understand about ADS-B service, I don't think this is the issue. In this airspace my ADS-B in receiver typically shows reception from 5-6 stations, and never fewer than 4.

ADS-B PAPR performance report failed on Kinematics...implications?

A friend flying in his plane behind me said that my traffic symbol disappeared from his screen for a few minutes on a short (25 minute) flight yesterday in the airspace between New York and Philadelphia. I checked my flight path and Track Log data on Flightaware and there was no gap in it (there...

Worrisome CHTs on an Overhauled Engine and New Engine Monitor

Here's Lycoming's fuel flow chart for the O-360. The OP's note doesn't specify field elevation, but presuming it's near enough to sea level that the engine can make 100% power, it calls for a minimum fuel flow of about 14.9 gph. So 14.5 gph would be a little low. Don't know if it's enough low...

Good suggestion. Thanks. My plan for tomorrow. :)

Bar Harbor ME Island Explorer Shuttle

We will be in Portland ME for a few days in early September and am thinking of going to Bar Harbor for a day using the Island Explorer Shuttle to get around. I saw a favorable recommendation on the shuttle in a post from over 10 years ago, and am looking for more recent feedback on doing this...

    Position of Autopilot control

I kept the old CDI for Nav2. I find that changing the display on a -275 from one setting to another troublesome. Particularly in even light turbulence. It is a very small virtual button that it easy to miss or double tap when the plane is bumping along. I also find it inconvenient to change...

Ground testing to help isolate cause of weak radio transmissions

I've gone up to about 2300 (I don't recall the exact number) in a static runup recently. No whine or squal in the headset. Just the sound of the running engine muffled by my headset. Ground strap is something I can check and didn't think of. Thanks.
