    Yes, I was expecting 17R.

Tower at KHND nearly did me in yesterday

Yes, most certainly a learning experience and I got off the ground alright. Like all piloting events that don't go as I had planned, I do as much analysis as I can and make it a learning experience. I am anything but complacent. I'm also not afraid to put some of my less than stellar moments out...

Tower at KHND nearly did me in yesterday

Yes, It can. I had almost full fuel, 200lbs in the baggage compartment. Front seats were Pilot 265lbs and 190lbs and rear seat passenger 155lbs. Carrying about 70 gallons (capacity is 84). Run W&B before every flight

Tower at KHND nearly did me in yesterday

Yes, and that's the last time I'll be doing that. BTW I can't find any reference to tailwind component in the 1968 C model POH

Tower at KHND nearly did me in yesterday

Great question. The 1968 POH is all of 54 pages and the charts are spartan, to say the least. It's also not charted with a 3 bladed prop which adds more front CG (which I have a lot of). Based on the charts for 50 ft obstacle no wind, I needed around 2k feet. Add 10% for every 2 knots of...

Tower at KHND nearly did me in yesterday

How to handle this situation - love to hear some advice. So yesterday was one of the busiest days I can remember at KHND. I was number 4 in line just to taxi to the runway - and when I got there I was number 5 or so in line. So, busy day. The tower controller was doing ground as well so he...

    Mid-Air at Winter Haven

You're right. Let's not bother trying to make it a little safer. Que Sera Sera -

    Mid-Air at Winter Haven

And if the Cub pilot had a radio he would have known which runway was being used. I appreciate the purists who want to fly a classic plane equipped with state of the art 1938 avionics. Like the classic car caravans/rally’s where 100 model T’s or similar drive the coast road or the freeway for...

    Cirrus for sale abundance

Not my language. This is an email from Aerista and the point I was trying to make is that their projections are a little rosy

    Cirrus for sale abundance

Here's an analysis from a big Cirrus dealer. Personally, I think their projections are very rosy but then again it's completely in their interests to downplay price drops. Hello Fellow Cirrus Pilots and Friends, Aerista is widely known as having the most robust data of Cirrus pre-owned...

    Mid-Air at Winter Haven

If the Cub had a portable, battery operated Stratus and an Ipad, there's a good chance they may have seen the traffic. No electrical system needed.

    Mid-Air at Winter Haven

I know nothing of Winterhaven other than what I was introduced to via this discussion thread and what I have subsequently learned through Foreflight. While the J-3 had no legal requirement for either ADSB or radios, the immediate proximity of a towerless airport used by at least two flight...
