Lycoming o320 vs. Rotax 915: cost to own

I think I’m moving to the Czech Republic. Though I don’t believe that Italy is actually in the CR, it’s fairly close to it. :D

    White Lightning

There’s also the single-seat Lightning Bug aircraft. Turb Aero also has a not-yet-flying prototype called the Rapture Bug, based very heavily off the Jones Lightning Bug. While they plan to mount their 200 hp turbine on it, they have plans for it to be available with the Rotax 912 as a kit...

Lycoming o320 vs. Rotax 915: cost to own

It doesn’t even say what horsepower it will be rated, but it should be one heck of an engine, especially with turbocharging. There seems to be no info on a 916 engine. There seems to be a 916 engine, but not necessarily for aircraft. https://www.easa.europa.eu/en/downloads/7633/en

Lycoming o320 vs. Rotax 915: cost to own

Thanks to everyone for all your responses. I had forgotten that there are several fast aircraft, particularly in the Czech Republic, that are using the 915, such as the Bristell. The Sling also uses it. Though it’s not RV fast, it’s certainly no slowpoke.

Aircraft ownership rush to Exit door

There currently aren’t a high number of experimentals on the market, so perhaps you have a valid point. (I haven’t scrolled through all the replies on this thread, so forgive if this has already been touched on).

Are steam gauge cockpits always lighter than glass?

As there is a wide variety of panel options in the experimental world, is it a safe assumption that steam gauges will always weigh lighter than any kind of glass cockpit, even if it’s a relatively small screen with few other gauges? https://img.aeroexpo.online/images_ar/photo-g/171518-10284292.webp

Investment question (using brokerage account to fund a Roth IRA)

Thanks for that, I just bought a few shares yesterday. I wonder how long this fund has been around? Also, thank to everyone for your replies. While I do NOT underestimate the importance of investing in the Roth IRA and being able to withdraw without being taxed, I also want to be able to...

Investment question (using brokerage account to fund a Roth IRA)

I’m 35 yrs young, so I still have some years ahead of me :D,but definitely have some years behind me :(. I currently have stock in the S&P 500 index fund. Low risk/low reward. In the words of Dave Ramsey, it’s a “get rich slow scheme”. I’ve currently grossed $43k this year (I’m a dumptruck...

Investment question (using brokerage account to fund a Roth IRA)

I’m relatively new to investing, but a few years ago with some help from a family member, I set up a Roth IRA and put the max amount for that year. Aside from adding a few drips & drabs here and there, I haven’t done much with the Roth. Then a couple of months ago, I started an individual...

How expensive/effective is nosewheel-retractable landing gear?

Yes, thank you! Now knowing make/model, a quick search led me to this article: https://www.planeandpilotmag.com/article/lancair-mako-make-airventure-debut/ “Lancair thinks that tucking the nose gear will add better than five knots to cruise while retaining, according to Lancair, the lower...

How expensive/effective is nosewheel-retractable landing gear?

When it comes to aircraft in which only the nose gear retracts such as the Long EZ, and I believe some Lancair or Glasair models, how less expensive would they be to maintain versus a fully retractable gear aircraft? I like to believe it would be a third of the expense. And would insurance be...

Do wheel pants make a difference?

That looks a lot like the Skyhawk I trained/rented in, though I realize this paint & color scheme was quite common. I hope that’s not N4912G, because if it is then I’d owe you an apology for all the wear & tear that’s accumulated. :D

Lycoming o320 vs. Rotax 915: cost to own

There have been some comparisons with these two engines as the o320 is more powerful at lower altitudes, whereas the 915 is more powerful at higher altitudes (10k+ ft). The 915 is also lighter, and you tend to see them on a lot of bush/stol aircraft, such as Zeniths, Kitfox and Rams, but you...

Which brand of washer/dryer should I get?

I’m a renter, and I’m about to move to a mobile home park for a lower monthly rate ($425, AND the lawn care & garbage is included in the rent). The place I’m renting now already had the washer & dryer included, so I’ll have to get my own when I move to this new place. This other mobile home is...

New engine on a newly built airplane?

When building an experimental, how do builders deal with both performing the engine break-in procedure and flight testing the aircraft? Seems like I read that with a new Lycoming, they preheat the engine oil, tow the aircraft to the run up area, then have the pilot become airborne ASAP...

    Turbine JMB VL3

Sorry if this is off topic, but according to the JMB website, they offer a fixed gear version. Any idea of the difference in cruise speed of the retractable? The website makes no mention of it, and there may not be any FG’s flying. If the difference is not that great, I would prefer the FG...

    The End of N222TF

Could using chains instead of ropes have made a difference? Or perhaps doubling up with two ropes? For those that tie down full time instead of hangaring (not saying that’s the case with this one), are there any extra precautions they take to prevent this from happening? Some ag pilots tie...

Do constant speed props need to be pitched for a certain airspeed?

One other question I have is, could you swap C/S prop & engine with an aircraft with only marginally different performance? An example would be an RV 6/7 and a fixed-gear Glasair (cruise 10-15 kts faster than an RV).

Do constant speed props need to be pitched for a certain airspeed?

Ok that pretty much answers my question. The appropriate thread title shoud’ve been “Can a C/S prop be out of pitch for a certain airframe”.
