Tips for flying through the Annular Eclipse

I wonder, would it be illegal for a student or ultralight pilot to be airborne during the eclipse. :D

I can't make sense of this crash

When I was a student and did unusual attitudes for the first time, I let the airspeed got up to 150 kts. Only happened one time, and the instructor did say something about it. Perhaps that’s what they were doing? (Didn’t read the article).

Trucker ticketed after wedging helicopter beneath I-12 overpass in Denham Springs

Whereas the driver, the shipper, and the insurance co. are very bummed, the shop is probably dancing with joy. One man’s loss really is another man’s gain.

Required income to afford single-engine aircraft ownership?

For those who currently own their own plane, or have past experience in ownership, what would you consider the required annual income to be able to afford ownership for something like a Skyhawk, Cherokee, Grumman, or 2-seater RV for around $100k? This would include purchasing and then...

How important is a paint job?

While that new paint job looks nice, I saw nothing wrong with the old paint (from that distance).

I'm officially slow but loving it ...

Yes keeping a bit of power made it easier to grease the landings. :D Though when it came time to do some simulated engine-out landings on a BFR, both myself and the landing gear were in for a rough time. Edit: Here’s a video of the very Sundowner I used to fly (I’m not the uploader).

I'm officially slow but loving it ...

Exact same scenario with the woman that purpoised the one I used to fly. She hasn’t flown since. Sundowners are not difficult to fly or land, but they’re not the greatest trainers (barring IFR training, they’re fantastic for that). The landing gear can’t take quite the abuse that a Skyhawk or...

Finding someone to do maintenance on a Grumman Cheetah/Tiger?

Well darn, there was one in my area and I never knew it. According to their website, they have fuel-injected Tiger, and they’re also planning an STC for a constant-speed prop. This sounds like it’d be a good idea to help with the takeoff & climb performance. And according to Wikipedia...

I'm officially slow but loving it ...

I used to rent a Sundowner years ago until there was an accident during a landing; a student had a purpoising incident. It cruised a bit slower than a 160 hp Skyhawk, though I believe the difference in speed would diminish with altitude on x-country flights (loses some drag while maintaining...

Finding someone to do maintenance on a Grumman Cheetah/Tiger?

It’s my understanding that if planning to purchase a Grumman aircraft (in my case it would be a Cheetah or Tiger), you’ll want someone with experience with Grumman experience to do the pre-buy inspection and the maintenance (affectionately referred to as “Grumman Gurus”), and not just any A&P...

Costs of replacing a panel in Piper Cherokee?

https://www.barnstormers.com/listing_images.php?id=1852044 If I wanted a red-colored panel like the aircraft in this listing, how expensive would it be to have a shop to remove and replace it? If it were a blue aircraft, I might have a blue panel installed, or a green panel in a green...

How short is too short of a flight?

Not if a successful landing on a paved road can be performed. :p

    Crash at Oshkosh

I want to go to OSH 2024... BUT

Yes I stayed in Green Bay and hotel prices were only a fraction of those in the Appleton and Osh areas.

    Questions about Ultralight ownership

As with certified, exp. and LSA aircraft, there are a variety of different brands with different models, ranging from $10k to over $100k (the Excalibur & some Challenger models with 912 engines come to mind). But for the most part, is ownership of an ultralight more affordable than registered...

About the benefits and harms of covers

You can save $$$ by not hangaring, but it means more work. If you make it a point to fly often, the covers would be removed regardless.

YAWASIGT - Yet Another What Aircraft Should I Get Thread

There was a fixed-gear Glasair on barnstormers (may still be there), but without c/s prop, probably won’t do so well on grass strips (it may not do well with c/s prop).

YAWASIGT - Yet Another What Aircraft Should I Get Thread

Not too many of those flying, though they sell kits. They were at EAA last year.
