    AOA vs Stall Horn

Both are good but the audible warning of the stall horn is vital. You may not be looking at the AoA but looking out for traffic and terrain.

    When to repaint a plane?

I hope I still live in a free state which will allow me to paint my plane, car, farm tractor, house, etc. OTH we are definitely being contaminated by ideas coming from refugees from the people's republic next door.

    When to repaint a plane?

I am not "set up" for painting. I just have a wide open hangar and paint after wetting down the floor. Painting is really quite simple if you get one of the many "how to" books sold a auto stores. In fact I also painted the green car in my thumbnail. In fact some here paint planes out of doors...

Where to have a Field Overhaul

I am a committed DIY guy and If do not know how to do something I will learn (I find learning to be the very essence of life). In the past year I have put in two entire house gas systems and a septic system. And remember that work you do for yourself is income tax free. Calculate your savings...

    When to repaint a plane?

I really like your plan B. I do have my own hangar and (dirt) airstrip. However I think that the most profitable activity I can imagine is painting my own plane. It took me about 3 weeks total and I saved what? Maybe $10 to $ 12k ? If I figure in my marginal tax bracket including Federal...

    When to repaint a plane?

Sorry about the double image. Mistake in attaching. The picture is about 5 years old so the paint is about 35 years old. Imron is good stuff.

    When to repaint a plane?

I personally painted my C-210D (it's in the picture) in 1981 with Imron and the paint is still pretty good. It took me a week to strip the old paint which if often not necessary. The spraying was not difficult after I realized that you should do it in 4 sections to eliminate same plane...

Where to have a Field Overhaul

Maybe you with a certified mechanic. I have major overhauled my IO-520A twice with no problems whatever and not an A&P. My last major with all new cylinder assemblies was about $14,000. These are very simple engines but and not hard to work on but time consuming due to individual cylinders (vs...

Spark Plugs To Blast or Not to Blast

Would you use a vibrator on fines? I have never cracked the ceramic in 8000 hours. Am I that good? Probably.

    Cleaning out the brake system

In 8000 hours and 50 years I have never flushed out a hydraulic brake system and never had a problem. Also, I now put 15% Granville Strut Seal in ALL my hydraulic systems since it reconditions rubber. As to bleeding brakes the basic physics is the same: push the fluid through the system faster...

Spark Plugs To Blast or Not to Blast

I have not had fouling with massives but I am sold on fines. They cost less per hour, never need gapping since the erode so little, you would never blast them. Just use pick to get out the lead balls. There is dyno report that fines give couple a percent more BHP which should mean less fuel/BHP...

    Thoughts! $390k 74 206?!?!?

But why pay $300,000 more for a slower airplane which is realistically 5 place airplane vs, a 4+2 plane unless you just gotta have a fifth adult seat? You can buy a lot of airline tickers for $300k. also the C-210 costs less to operate since you go 10% further for the same fuel and engine cost.

    Thoughts! $390k 74 206?!?!?

Are you aware that the fixed gear C-206 was developed from the strut version Cessna 210. The C-210 is 15 MPH faster and has a higher service ceiling, 21,000'. Mine in the pix. It is also much, much less expensive. Mine is in excellent condx and is insured for a market value of $60K. I have owned...

    Engine quit upon landing

Many bush pilots here that fly into very short landing strips in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico deliberately set their idle RPM very low to permit steeper approaches and shorter landings. The throttle is used for idle RPM desired.

WWYD - looking at a PA28 that's been sitting a year after prop strike

Prop strike? A long time ago all that was required was a check to see if the crank was bent using a dial gauge on the prop flange. I would like to see hard data as to how much damage is actually found upon tear down if the crank passes a dial gauge test.

    2006 Cessna T206H Stationair

The 1962 to 1967 C-210s are almost identical airplanes but 15 MPH faster and much, much cheaper . Very good ones around $60K. The 205/206 was developed from the C-210. 4 plus 2 seating. Also service ceiling is 21,000'. (Yes, that's mine in the pix.)

    Brake Hose

And my brake hoses are 57 years old and doing fine. But I put Granville Strut Seal in ALL my C-210 hydraulic systems. It replaces lost plasticizer in all rubbers from hoses to 'O' rings And I have only replaced 'O' rings once in 57 years. Airplane rubber has very lazy life compared to automotive.

Corrosion 1 week after top OH?

I oil consumption is normal and also compression 70 or above I would have little safety concern. Just fly. As one poster mentioned Milleniem cylinder assemblies are so reasonable many just replace the cylinders. And you get new pistons. valves, etc.

    Cracked aluminum cowling

Would they actually heat treat a non-structural part like the nose portion of a cowling? Seems like overkill.

    Cracked aluminum cowling

You are exactly right. I would really like a verifiable explanation. How does Cessna still exist.
