    CHTs running cold?

You may need to verify your CHT gauge accuracy. I have done this several times with a lab quality mercury thermometer in an oil bath heated on a hot plate. Hang the probe in the temperature stabilized oil which I stir. It's the redline temp that is most critical. I found out that the factory...

The one in the pix. And the strut must be fully extended. Lots of oil cartons on the tail horizontal.

Which log is used to record VOR accuracy checks?

A Culver Cadet? Be still my heart as this was the first plane I was flew in piloted by a former WASP.

Calculating the moment for a new piece of equipment

It is very unlikely that a 22 pound heavier prop will be a problem unless you already have an inability to raise nose enough for a power off stall. The effect of moving the CG forward yields a bit greater pitch stability and a minuscule increase in drag. carrying 20# in the baggage compartment...

    Vacuum Pump Shelf Life

A dirty belly never killed anyone but a failed vacuum system pump has. I am not so dainty that I can't clean the belly once in a while. And BTW use non-pumice GoJo instead of a solvent and belly cleaning is easy.

    Unexpected Ramp Fees

It does not matter to me if the fee is a surprise or not. It's being forced to pay for some thing I neither want nor need. Tucson international is an example which for many decades did not charge a ramp fee, just overnight tie down. Now you are forced to to use an FBO that wants $40 (maybe more...

    Vacuum Pump Shelf Life

Would they go safely 5000 hours? Why not get a wet pump and never need to measure nor replace? And wet pumps are cheaper per hour.

    Unexpected Ramp Fees

I started flying in 1952 and never payed a ramp fee until bizjets became common. I neither need nor want a fancy FBO. Really, I can carry my own bags and tie down my own airplane. Yes, as hard as may be to believe, I really can. Small GA is dying with and the last thing it needs is more...

    Vacuum Pump Shelf Life

I am blessed with a wet pump which might go 5000 hours or more. But a dry pump? Very unreliable and I am surprised that the FAA ever permitted them. If I were flying serious IFR the replace at 400 hours. If just to make the gyros turn maybe 700 hours. BTW it is possible to replace your pump with...

Getting to a cold FBO to get a heater

Actually colder WX, by increasing viscosity, keeps the oil on engine parts even longer. In any case I have started many times around 10 degrees F and no engine damage. Once an idea becomes "common knowledge" it is never tested and proven to be true and goes on and on. I question everything and...

Inactive engine, pull plugs, hit starter until oil pressure?

My TCM IO-520 has sat six months and I just start it and never any damage. Oil pressure is not even necessary for full film lubrication. The old, reliable Chevy sixes only had oil pressure to the main bearings, the rod bearings just had scoops. A spinning bearing can self pressurise due to...

Getting to a cold FBO to get a heater

I have started my engine many times down to 10 degrees F without preheat and no damage. Since I do my own major overhauls I am sure I would have noticed. If you can get it to start on AVGAS no need to preheat. I once asked a Porsche dealer about the need preheat the old Porsche air cooled engine...

    Max RPM

BTW you can verify tach accuracy by running up your engine at night in a lighted area and noting the RPMs where you can "stop" the prop image by synching with 120 flickers/second of line AC frequency.

    Unexpected Ramp Fees

How many realize that ramp fees were virtually unknown until the arrival of bizjets except at a few huge, primarily airline airports? I don't need a fancy FBO I just want someplace to park and let off or pickup pax without a fee or to be able to park for a day visit without a fee. And FBOs...

Any piston engines that fly above FL250?

And well over that. My non-turbo has a service ceiling of 21,000' and I have easily cruised at 23,000 medium load non-pressurized mags. Doesn't the 67 T-210 hold an altitude record for its category?

Or a flying girlfriend with medical. Best of all worlds.

You don't like my spelling? I don't either. English spelling is so ridiculous it deserves to be spelled anyway one wants to. Spanish is always 100% phonetic and sounds better, too.

Brand/type of inner tube very low air leakage.

I saw a pix of the Air Stops and it has that ornamental shiny ring on the valve stem so I agree that Air Stops do just that based on my other wheel's pressure retention. High air pressure really help in pushing an airplane around. Thanks.
