Diamond DA40: My perspective as a passenger

The only parts which I've heard are maintenance issues are the plastic window latches, which some folks break off with some regularity, and the electric fuel pump (there is a more reliable model available now). I've not had any issues with either of them. There is a free Diamond Forum that has a...

Diamond DA40: My perspective as a passenger

To address your specific questions: 1) Doesn't seem horrible to me (I have 600 hours in the DA40). But, it is a light aircraft (MGW is less than 2700 pounds). The P3C I flew in the Navy handled turbulence better... 2) What specific materials? It is carbon fiber and glass fiber. The build...

    Blue Angles are BACK!!!!

Actually, my favorite aircraft the Blues flew was the A4. Something about that 720 degree per second roll rate. :hairraise: Steve

    To good to be true

No autopilot. But, it probably could be cleaned up pretty nicely. Not too different from my airplane (same year, I have a B/K panel and autopilot, MT prop, and mine has about 1/10th the number of hours). Good price, if it was well-maintained. I love mine… Steve

    Blue Angles are BACK!!!!

I think we all missed them! The Pensacola News Journal reported 25,000 spectators at their first practice last week. Usually there are 1 or 2 thousand. If you get the chance, try watching a practice from the lighthouse on base (you will have to get there real early, since they only allow about a...

MT Composite 3 Blade Ding Repair?

MT-Propeller Service Letter SL-32C details repair limits and procedures. On page 7 they show allowable erosion sheath dents. Single dents up to 11 mm by 11 mm may be filled with epoxy if not delaminated or punched through. http://www.mt-propeller.com/pdf/sls/sl32c.pdf Steve

Do you carry a fire extinguisher?

It is required equipment in my aircraft. Just had it serviced last year ($110 including shipping).

    Strange call from tower...

Had the same experience myself (about 100 hours civilian before going down to NAS Whiting). On my first landing the IP says, "Don't flare so much." Next one he says, "Don't flare so much." Next one he yells, "DON'T FLARE SO MUCH!" Steve

Anyone had to touch up the lettering...

Well, I figured it out myself. Got a black Lacquer-Stik fill in paint stick. See before and after pictures. A nice $5 fix.

Anyone had to touch up the lettering...

... on the buttons of Bendix/King avionics? The lettering on the DN button on my KAP-140 autopilot is completely worn off. None of the other buttons (I have a full B/K stack) has worn at at all. The lettering seems to be etched with a black paint fill. I know what the button does, obviously...

    Lycoming Suction Screen

I remove, inspect, clean, and replace it using a new crush gasket every oil change. The only thing I've ever found in it (>500 hours) is a few (carbon?) flakes. I tend to be OCD when it comes to maintenance... Steve

Unusual power connector - help needed

The Diamond part number is: 464-022 It is a Binder # 712 connector, made in Germany. http://www.binder-connector.de/en/products/subminiature-m9-connectors-ip67/835 It is not a headset power connector. In fact, it is placarded for ground use only. I bought one about ten years ago from Diamond...
