A lot of the elevator trim issues on DA40s are due to binding pitch trim damper rods (under the horizontal stabilizer). Clean yours and measure the tension as per the Maintenance Manual. It may require adjustment.

Really? I wouldn't allow anyone to pull a cylinder on my engine, much less a prospective buyer (unless there was an issue with it). Magnetos, no problem pulling one (or both). I agree with checking oil analysis data, cutting the oil filter,run history, etc.

Agree - nothing should ever be in contact with the exhaust. Not sure that is the cause of your issue, but you should definitely fix that. Did you say that your aircraft just came out of Annual? If so, I am troubled that it wasn’t found then…
