    Boeing’s on a streak...

Maybe. Spirit was spun off and that didn't work out so well. Now I think I read that they are going to pull Spirit back into the fold. The commercial business could be similarly spun off as a whole. No purchaser required, just spin it off as a separate business. That could make sense if there...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

Was discussing the management shakeup with a friend recently who suggested it was more about them being late on deliveries, and the bottom line than it was about the safety culture...despite public statements to the contrary. Well, today I saw this story at PJ Media, which would seem to add...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

Well, at least something is happening...also, head of commercial airlines div, Stan Deal is out immediately, and board chairman to step down at end of year. I don't want to know how many millions of dollars in golden parachutes are going out with these folks...

LATAM 787 incident caused by FA?

I don't have a subscription to WSJ and didn't know where to find the memo. Had to go with what Juan put into the video. So, if this is a maintenance problem...should there have been at least a suggestion to replace the switch with one that didn't have this failure mode? What did the 2017...

LATAM 787 incident caused by FA?

News article in WSJ gets Juan Browne to put out a new video (link to WSJ in the video): Defective rocker switch causes memo from Boing to 787 crews...? (It's not Boeing anymore, it's Boing :))

Cessna down after stalling on take off

Here's a quote from the pilot in the article linked above: “When I came over the corner over the lake, there was a lot of wind coming at me, which isn’t normally a big deal,” Feild said. “My plane — a turbocharged 210 — has plenty of horsepower.” Is it just me, or does this seem like an odd...

    Boeing’s many problems

Kyle, you are correct -- thank you for pointing that out. Here's a longer timeline of the stock price. I think Boeing's admission of fault with MCAS was in early 2020 (check me on that), and that shows in the stock price. Does anyone remember what caused the dips in 2022 and late 2023?

    Boeing’s on a streak...

Curious that this is being reported mostly on UK news sites...from what I can tell, there's much less coverage in the U.S. Not sure what (if anything) to make of that... https://www.live5news.com/2024/03/12/boeing-whistleblower-who-raised-concerns-companys-production-found-dead/

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

Story in the WSJ today about DOJ opening criminal probe into this event. Regardless of the outcome, that's going to make it harder for NTSB to get information out of Boeing. The DOT IG is also opening a probe into FAA employee involvement in this, which will cause some in the FAA to clam up...

    Plane crash on FL freeway

It would be helpful if the NTSB website would allow folks to request e-mail notification when new documents are published on a specific accident. As it is, we must periodically search on CAROL to find out if anything has changed.

    Intersection Takeoff NOT Okay

:D:D:D Here's a video of the aircraft exiting the runway on takeoff. Seems the flight was operated by "Marathon Airlines" for Air Serbia, and that relationship has been terminated as a result of the accident.

    Intersection Takeoff NOT Okay

And there's the old saying about the three most useless things to a pilot in case of emergency: The fuel you left on the ground. >>> The runway behind you. <<< The air above you.

    Intersection Takeoff NOT Okay

ERJ-195 collided with lightpoles(?) after runway overrun during intersection takeoff from Belgrade. Runway is 11,500ft long, but intersection departure only provided 4175ft TODA. Ouch. There might be an interesting story behind this one. https://www.aviation-safety.net/wikibase/351783

Hawker 900XP on departure from Grand Junction, CO

Initially leveled at FL200 and 285kt. Then airspeed began to drop while maintaining FL200, all the way down to 180kt or so, seemingly followed by possible stall/spin, 15,000 ft/min descent to the smoking hole. Was AP engaged and nobody did anything in response to an engine failure? Would...

That's what I was unclear on. Never having seen any documents on the process, I was left to fantasize about the process :)

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

Violating my own rule here: don't speculate. The photo of stop pin damage shows a screw on the plug, and a matching shiny pad on the fuselage. I'm wondering if after the plug is in place, these screws are adjusted to create pressure on the pad (each of 12 stop pads), thus forcing positive...

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

The NTSB prelim report seems to add at least some credence to allegations by this supposed whistleblower. Specifically, that rework on damaged rivets required opening the door plug.
