Thinking about a career change rant

When the company I worked for wanted to put me on the management track, I quit and became an independent consultant. That was 15 long years ago and I haven't regretted it one second. I had no interest in management and wanted to stay marketable. As someone else said, most management positions...

    Recent GA experience with KLAS?

Thanks, forgot about this. I'll leave some room in the tanks if I go there!

Want To Buy WTB - QT Halo Triple Flange eartips

Good luck, those rubber ones are awesome! I still use mine - I'd be disappointed with the foam ones.

    Recent GA experience with KLAS?

Thanks for all of the replies! What kind of fees are we talking about? No overnight, no gas. Just a quick drop-off. HND is my alternate. I've flown in there several times with no issues.

    Recent GA experience with KLAS?

I'm looking at flying into LAS to drop someone off. Does anyone have recent experience in going there? IIRC In the past it wasn't very GA friendly unless you were in a jet. HND is a lot easier but also a lot farther from everything. Any info would be great!

Flying W in NJ is going away.

Man, I loved flying there and getting a bite to eat!

To PT or not to PT

This is why it's a VOR-A instead of VOR-19. The descent rate is greater than the maximum allowed by the FAA for a -XX <RWY> approach (I don't recall what the maximum is off hand). You can either try to descend at the rate to get you to the airport or circle-to-land. That's also why there are...

    AOPA iFlightPlanner on iPad?

Does the AOPA iFlightPlanner work in the AOPA iPad app, or does it just launch a web page via browser? I started playing with it on the PC, but when I looked at it on the AOPA app I don't see where it has this functionality. One of the reviewers said it launches the browser but wanted to verify...

    First Time Airplane Buyer....maybe

Lot's of good suggestions here. I say buy into a partnership or join a club. After my PPL, I bought 1/3 into a Warrior partnership. Worked out well, MX was split between three people and I had the plane almost as much as I wanted it. There were occasional conflicts but they were easily worked...

    GA landing KPHX?

I've been told landing at PHX is super easy and they are very GA friendly. The only fees are from the FBO, no landing fees. I haven't done it yet myself though, just what I've been told by a person I fly with.

Would you fly IMC <200 knots without static wicks?

Isn't this a plastic vs metal thing? Plastic planes have them and metal don't? I know my Columbia has gathered a huge amount of static (and this is with wicks). If I was building a plastic plane, I'd want them for sure.

O2 conservation - MH vs SkyOx

I'll say I've been really happy with my 2-place MH O2D2 system. One of the nice things about it is if it detects that you are not breathing, there is an alert that can be plugged into your com system. I never compared to other options because it came with the plane. I've always figured if I'm...

    General Aviation in Costa Rica?

I flew to Costa Rica for a friend's wedding. We were in Philly at the time, so we did the Key West -> Grand Cayman -> Costa Rica route. It was a lot of fun and very interesting. There are a fair number of runways there and GA is alive (although IIRC you're better off with no wheel pants and high...

Can engine heater reduce/prevent engine corrosion?

I disagree with several of the others. Keeping your engine above the dew point will keep the moisture from condensing on the inside of the engine and the will avoid corrosion. What will kill the engine quickly is cycling the heater like many do (e.g. putting on a timer or temperature switch)...

MedXPress - Have you EVER been hospitalized?

Thanks for all of the replies. I think my AME was thinking along the same lines as others - if it wasn't an overnight, I wasn't 'admitted'. Unfortunately since I had already submitted a 'yes' reply, he had to address it and I will forever have to answer 'yes' to that question... What's even...
