    CBD??

Thanks to this thread, I tried the Voltaren gel on my knee that gets tendinitis and it seemed to work great (only one test so far, but I'll be using it again this weekend). It takes several days to build up for arthritis but many of the reviewers mention that is works quickly for acute pains...

    Air Conditioning Effect Performance?

The AC in the Columbias is very effective and VERY nice to have! I live in Northern AZ (4500') and use it quite a bit. The design of the plane allows a lot of sun into the cabin. You can block it with tints or shades, but it's SOOO NICE sitting on the ramp with the AC kicking and seeing everyone...

    Part 141 instrument training?

I did Part 61 for my private, then 141 for my instrument. I liked 141 because of the structure and plane availability. They also had a good sim that I could use for a fair number of hours to learn procedures. A good Part 61 will offer the same, but when I tried to get my instrument via a 61...

    Monument Valley Lunch Daytrip

Haha - Yeah, I realized that after I posted :) UT25 is definitely on my list! I got confused by the Marble Canyon video. It was good watching them again though!

    Monument Valley Lunch Daytrip

Reviving this old thread because we flew to L41 today. The runway was as described - paved, but bumpy. Landing on 03, there is a pretty quick rise in elevation, followed by a more gradual rise after the first 500 or so feet. Also, the first 250 ft or so is not paved, but it wasn't an issue. We...

Cirrus Fuel Boost Pump and NTSB

The issue is that often a hiccup in the fuel flow (for whatever reason) can cause the auxiliary pump to kick on (it is initially set to 'armed' and not actually running). If the primary pump didn't fail, but only had a pause for some reason, you now have both fuel pumps running at the same time...

FAA allowing turf ops next to paved runways

I ask because my airport (KSEZ) seems to have space next to the runway for a grass field. If there is interest, I'd make a recommendation to clean it and allow it's use as an alternative landing spot. I'm on the board, so I have a little bit of pull.

FAA allowing turf ops next to paved runways

Aside from practicing grass-field ops, why would you choose the grass over pavement?

    Oceano L52 Fly-in May 13-14

Nice! We've penciled in the date! What time does the morning fog usually burn off? Typical winds? We're excited to come visit!

I've been wanting to fly and camp there. This may be a great opportunity!

Southwest 'purchased' frequency used by DZ for A2A and A2G

Great info, thanks! It's not my DZ or my fight, but I'll let my SIL know what was found. She's pretty by-the-book, so she'll probably look into getting a discreet frequency for the place.

Southwest 'purchased' frequency used by DZ for A2A and A2G

From everything I've been able to find, the SW pilot was talking out of his butt. The DZ probably doesn't have explicit permission to use the frequency, but nobody else owns it. Thanks for all of the replies!

Southwest 'purchased' frequency used by DZ for A2A and A2G

I don't know that the DZ was ever assigned a frequency to use. They were probably banditing it. Is that illegal though? Is it illegal to use an unassigned frequency? I've never heard this, although it's not something I routinely investigate. Probably an FCC issue? I guess the question is, do...

Southwest 'purchased' frequency used by DZ for A2A and A2G

The frequency is 131.5, and it sounds like a Southwest pilot told the DZ pilot they weren't allowed to use that frequency because it was licensed or owned by Southwest. My BS meter is starting to go off now... I'm thinking the SW pilot was either talking out of his or her ass and the jump pilot...

Southwest 'purchased' frequency used by DZ for A2A and A2G

The DZ in Sebastian has been using the same frequency for air-to-air and air-to-ground communication for like 20 years. They were recently informed that they cannot use that frequency any more because Southwest purchased it (probably licensed it). The DZ uses it to avoid causing congestion on...

Why don’t you fly rotor wing?

Mine is currently being manufactured, but they all seem to have a certain amount of stick shake. The one I did my training in had a small amount, maybe 1/4"? You tend to forget about it pretty quickly. I don't think I've ever seen one that had zero stick shake.

Why don’t you fly rotor wing?

I've ridden in many helicopters but rarely landed in them. How can you perform a vertical descent in autorotation and still flare? I guess using the collective? The rotorcraft I'm used to flying don't have a collective ;)

Why don’t you fly rotor wing?

You still need an open area to autorotate to a landing though. You can't just drop straight down in autorotation and expect a soft (or even survivable) landing, right? Deadman's curve and all that...
