Wow, that's crazy insurance! Can't say I blame you...

    Experimental maintenance questions

Maybe it would be a good idea to print out the correct wording and tape it to the front of the log book for the A&P to reference when performing the sign off?

Looking for buying advice. A need for speed in new plane.

Hmmm... Annuals typically run me 7-8K, although they should be a little less on the 350 without the turbo stuff. VB will make sure everything is up to date. One of their managers was with Columbia pretty much from the beginning and was a test pilot for them (and later, Eclipse), and knows the...

Looking for buying advice. A need for speed in new plane.

Sorry, I didn't see your questions from earlier! The 350 is an excellent plane, and Van Bortel is a top notch place to work with. I don't remember how many hours I had when I bought the 400, but I think it was around 250 w/ IR. I haven't had good quotes from Avemco, but I know others have. My...

    Credit card rewards for fuel

It's not that the FBO codes the purchase wrong, it's that they don't want to participate in the promotion. The extra rewards are, at least partially, paid for by the FBO via CC fees. They don't want to pay extra for your cash back, so they don't label the sale as a gas sale. I don't know all of...

What's required for discovery flights in E/AB LSA?

Interesting, thanks! I didn't realize that a discovery flight would be any different from primary instruction, or that the LODA would spell out the exact type I could do. As to licensing, I would think a CFIS would allow this as an instructional flight. I'm not even sure how you get a...

What's required for discovery flights in E/AB LSA?

What would be required to give discovery flights in an E-AB LSA owned by the pilot? From the aircraft perspective, I think a LODA is required? Is insurance a concern? Anything else? What about for the pilot? Can I get my CFIS and do it? The idea would be to offer introductory or discovery...

Trending Cause of Cirrus SR 22 NA/Turbo Engine Failures

Just to clarify, in the TSIO-550, the electric pump is 'armed' for takeoff and landing, but it doesn't latch (activate) until fuel pressure decreases to a certain value (I don't recall the value off the top of my head, but it's basically zero). So the electric pump is pretty much never used...

Looking for buying advice. A need for speed in new plane.

My Columbia 400 will do 185 KTAS without even trying hard. Carries 2 people with baggage easy, and can throw 2 more in if you don't fill the tanks (carries 100 gallons). They were getting cheap, but now it looks like the have gone up in price along with everything else. Lancairs are a bit...

Landing fee if you conduct a T&G or low approach at KDEN or KMCI?

Now there are 'services' that watch the ADS-B info and send a bill automatically. Our airport in Sedona does this (only fees for large planes, I believe).

    SR22 Passenger Weight

My biggest concern would be fitting in the seat. I've had some bigger people in my plane, and sometimes the seat is just too narrow.

    Replacing seat belts

I'm confused. I never mentioned an airframe life limit (I think it's 25K hrs, so I have some time to worry about it). Are you saying the seat belt time limit is not applicable for some reason? If it's not, what is the reason? As mentioned, it was discussed and argued quite a bit on the CAAC...

    Replacing seat belts

This was on the Cessna Advanced Aircraft Club forums (formerly Club Columbia). The requirements could have been in the maintenance manual. It sets a life limit of 10 years for replacement.

    Replacing seat belts

There was a LOOOOOONNNNGGGGG discussion of this requirement. The issue is that the requirement says to 'Replace the seat restraint devices'. This has been interpreted as not allowing the replacement of just the webbing or overhaul of the seat belt and associated hardware (as otherwise it would...

    Oceano L52 Fly-in May 13-14

We spent the weekend at L52 for this celebration. It's a great little airport! We enjoyed the camping and the local area. My 6-yo son loved going to the beach and looking for sand dollars and playing in the dunes. We'll definitely be back! Thanks for all of the info!

    Replacing seat belts

Depends on the requirements as set out in the POH. In general, you can send them for rewebbing. For the lucky few (yours truly included), you need to replace the whole kit and kaboodle.

    Theaters

I really enjoyed the first season of Discovery. I'm looking forward to watching the rest when I get the chance. The whole Prime Directive thing though.... It's always reminded me too much of Apartheid.

Occasional blockbusters in IMAX 3D. Otherwise I watch everything at home. We go maybe once every couple of years.
