New task-based rule - how many hours is enough?

With the new task-based rules from the FAA, the 40-hr fly-off can be replaced with a task-based plan. I'm in the process of going through phase 1 on my gyro now, but many of the standard EAA cards that are recommended don't even apply. I've changed some of the tasks to be gyro-relevant (e.g...

    What not efi like cars

I'm in the process of flying off the Phase 1 tasks behind (actually, in front of) and Rotax 915iS. It has 2 generators to supply power to the EFI and other components. One powers the EFI constantly, while the other is a backup and is used to power avionics and charge the battery. If the main...

The older mountain bike thread but now a road bike review update

Tubeless tends to have lower rolling resistance due to having less hysteresis (only the tire needs to flex, not the tire and tube). Most of my flats tend to be from pinholes, which for some reason didn't get sealed with the sealant. About half the guys I ride with are running tubeless. They...

The older mountain bike thread but now a road bike review update

I've been using latex exclusively for around 12 years on my road bike. I'll be switching to road tubeless before the end of the year. The latex tend to be slightly lighter, and they roll better than butyl tubes. I also throw some sealant in them (so there goes the weight advantage...), which...

    Glendale AZ to Sedona

It's not as scary after you've done it a few times. The rocks are not as close as they appear. I usually do a combined turn to base and final, which helps bleed altitude and not overshoot the runway. A standard base will have you level wings and immediately turn to final, unless you plan to...

AC 90-89C Task-based cards from EAA

Thanks. Does this required an update from the DAR?

AC 90-89C Task-based cards from EAA

Got it, thanks! I wasn't sure if these were the right ones, since the date on them is May, 2021.

AC 90-89C Task-based cards from EAA

I was told that the EAA has task-based cards available to comply with the new Phase 1 flights, based on AC 90-89C. I haven't been able to find them on the EAA site. Does anyone have a link? Phase 1 flight testing on my gyro has just begun, and I'd like to look into using the task-based method...

(NA) Not happy with house price?(NA

Feedback from showings is garbage. My wife is a realtor, and the feedback is almost always the same. Price too high, Needs updating, things like that. I think showing agents are asked to provide feedback by the software, so this is what they say. Obviously if they were interested, they would...

    Anyone use online only banking?

I bank at a small credit union in Iowa, and live in AZ. I've only visited the CU once in the last 19 years (since I moved away). In the early years, it was a pain because I had to mail my checks. Now I can use mobile deposit for checks, set up payments via online banking, and pretty much...

    Rules for using MOGAS?

That's how I always see it done.

    Rules for using MOGAS?

OK, I'll ask - how are you grounding your plastic jug to the airplane? I was going to get one of those jiggly siphon thingies to transfer gas from the plastic gas can to the gyro (like almost everyone I know has done). I've never seen anyone ground their aircraft when doing this.

    87octane 10%ethanol for Rotax 912ul

I'm curious what altitude and temps you're flying at. I live at ~4500' and the temps can easily reach into the 90s.

Talk me out of a Columbia 400

I've been happy with my 400 since I purchased it. They are more complicated than your Piper, and things can break that you've never had to worry about. The folks at Van Bortal are among the best in the business, so anything they say will be on the money. There are parts available (aside from...

    DPEs are people too

The sport pilot add-on is easy to get and gets you good experience. After you get this, you can do pretty much anything you want with the gyro, except fly at night. Gyros only carry two people, and aren't very fast, so those SP limitations don't mean much. I got the SP add-on, and may get the...

    Gryoplane accident statistics

Keep in mind that there are lots of different gyros flying, too. Gyros have undergone a lot of refinement in the past 20-30 years, including longer tails, horizontal stabilizers (early gyros didn't have these, as can be seen in the picture of 'Little Nellie'), thrust line location (high, low...

    GoPro MAX 360 Video Editing

A 360 degree camera is in my future, specifically for aerial videos. I'm looking at one of the Insta360 models though. Any reason you chose the GoPro? The Insta360 software is supposed to be really easy to use. I've always used GoPros, but I've been disappointed that getting the GPS info out of...

Back Country..how many of you go there?

What exactly is meant by the term 'back country'? Some remote strips are short, rocky, etc. while others are just remote but paved or well maintained short grass, etc. Some aren't strips at all, just places that a plane can happen to land. I won't take the Columbia into any place that's too...
