    Entegra and 650

Had a Meridian with Entegra. Upgraded the twin 430s to 650s. Great improvement, no issue in playing well together. I would absolutely do it if I were you, especially if you do a lot of flying on airways. ‘Load Airway’ is a game-changer. Plus creating holds is a piece of cake.

    Luscombe Road Trip—Wish me luck!

If you didn’t feel comfortable in your flying skills, you should now.

140s and Luscombes - The Hidden Gem of the Market?

Arnold’s partner chiming in here! Low time tailwheel pilot. Well, almost 1700 hr commercial multi-engine rated who has worked up the ladder to a twin turbine, so a good mix of experience. My only other tw experience is in a TopCub with tundra tires, so kinda extreme variance for tailwheel...

    What’s with this Ted fella?

Seems to know an awful lot. Not sure he really understands LOP operation though.

    IFR Training - no motivation.....

If your heart isn’t in it, thenjust fly VFR. Just remember that an IFR rating doesn’t mean every flight is through massive lines of thunderstorms carrying an inch of ice. In fact, that shouldn’t be any scenario you expect. But the IR does let you fly on marginal days when blue skies are just a...

    Flight schools in Central NJ

And I was going to weigh in with a plug for Solberg... Family owned and operated. I based there for almost 4 yrs and really enjoyed it. Took in some instruction too, which I found professional and useful. I miss that place. Oh well, good for you for jumping in and going for it. 5-6 months to...

Which plane would you recommend for PPL?

Hmm that Lady Luscombe sounds like a mighty sweet bird! I agree with Arnold. If you can train in a basic taildragger, do it. You will learn the fundamental flying skills far better than in,say, an Archer with rudder/aileron interconnects. It will be more challenging. May takelonger too, but...

    Accelerated Instrument Training

I did mine with PIC (www.iflyifr.com i think). Very satisfied, but that was maybe 12-13 yrs ago. Showed up to my house with this crappy looking old fashioned analog trainer box and I thought ‘ugh what is this.’ Worked just fine for teaching procedures. In-air portion was great, we did not shy...

    172 vs 177 vs 182

If 60k is your hard-stop, then that really makes your decision for you. I think the 182 is the best all-around piston single - does pretty much everything, just not tops in any one category. Short field, unimproved field, long distance, short hop, easy mx, long range. But again, if budget is...

Do they teach correct patterns any more?

We get a lot of 135 traffic at KLOM, mostly PC12 and BE200 types, who love to call 7 mile final straight in, regardless of traffic in the pattern. My understanding has always been that you enter on downwind, maybe base, unless there is no traffic. You don’t just barge in on a long final. I fly a...

    best pressurized twin piston

I had a 414A for about 15months. Only thing I miss is the wide cabin. I got tired of scrubbing flights for mx issues. Never trusted that damn thing. Ran a lot of numbers looking at alternatives. Now I fly a Super Cheyenne (Cheyenne I with -135a upgrade) and I could not be happier. Trouble-free...

The FBO asked me: "Why are pilots so cheap"

Yeah! I get it. Situations like mine just show how ludicrous it is. Same airframe, different fuel. That's it. What is even more ludicrous is that now I fly a twin piston that is wider, longer, and heavier and my fee is only $50. Slowly but surely I will claw back those charges!!!! Sent from my...

The FBO asked me: "Why are pilots so cheap"

I fly to West Lebanon NH frequently. I got used to paying a $25 ramp fee for a PA46 Matrix. Showed up with a PA46 (well, P46T for internet sticklers) Meridian, got charged $75 because it was a turboprop. Same basic airframe and footprint. I thought it was bogus but not an argument worth having...

    Should I Fly the Arrow?

Beechcraft didn't think it was silly. They actually did that for a time in Musketeers, and may even have offered that option in the Sundowner. Mine didn't have it.

    I never fail anything...until today

With all due respect, failing a test to which all of the answers have been provided in advance is, well, unimpressive and undeserving of sympathy. I would advise a much more rigorous approach to your studies. Hell - you only need a 70 to pass and, again, you already know all the answers...

    Should I Fly the Arrow?

10 hours? For an Arrow? And you already had the complex endorsement and 15 in an RG? That seems excessive to me. Like, over-the-top excessive. You may want to talk to another broker. It is a Cherokee with folding legs, not a DC-10. Unless you are <100-150hrs PIC I just can't see that...

    KPNE information please

I think JetCenter is more reasonable. Check latest prices. Since I am local I only go there for Angel Flights but in my limited experience I have found JetCenter much friendlier than Atlantic.

What do you folks think of the new Cessna TTx

One man's opinion, but, I trained on an Archer, instead of a 172, in no small part due to my thinking that push/pull knobs seemed antiquated vs a handle. My first airplane, a Sunsowner, had the handle as well. Then I bought a T182T, and learned to love the vernier push pull knobs. If I had a...

Sat in a few planes today

The CFI who did my transition training in the Matrix was 6'7", 280. No joke. He fit in the copilot seat but I am not sure how he did it.

Passed the IR written today...what a ridiculous test.

Dear God - how can one possibly fly in modern airspace without being able to calculate distance from a VOR? And how can they call it a legitimate test without requiring one to demonstrate the knowledge of how to fly a radio range? Sigh. One wonders what it must be like to wander the halls of...
