Avoiding costly mistakes on mandatory take offs.

I never heard of such a thing as a "mandatory take off"

    NA - Farms

On the farm I grew up on, all the grain was harvested by a contractor with a combine. We had the equipment to plant and to bale the hay and straw.

    My new bird

I have a tablet that I mount to my panel and have a dual USB port to power my ADS-B in and my tablet. It's a dedicated tablet with AVARE and FlyQ. I wouldn't install an old Garmin in anything.

    NA - Farms

I grew up on a dairy farm in PA. Grandpa grew corn, oats and of course, hay for the cows and milked the cows twice a day. All the labor came from family. Not enough money in milk to keep it going. It was 163 acres and by the time I was in college, my uncle was running beef on the land and not...

Curious: The Most Ratings, Licenses, Endorsements A Pilot Can Have

Yes, got mine in Lakehurst NJ My father got his half wing observer badge in Korea. As the intel officer in a Helo squadron my son was the only officer without wings. He told the Ops officer that and the Ops opened his drawer and handed him the study guide to be an air crewman. He finished...

    Lightweight groceries for camping

When I camped at Oshkosh a few years back, I used a surplus military gas stove that used the same mogas I had in the plane. Since then I've become a isobutane fan with a tiny stove to screw into it. Enjoy your trip whatever you take.

    Lightweight groceries for camping

My favorite meal in the field is Pineapple Chicken over Rice. In a pot make boil-in-bag rice. Open a small can of chicken on a plate and break it up. Tuna can be substituted. When the rice is done, pour it over the chicken and let it heat the chicken. Open a can of pineapple rings and...

    uAvionics SkyBeacon functional?

    Tandem rotor helicopters

A tandem helo absorbs the torque in the spine of the copter. It literally wants to bend itself in half. A tandem rotor helo can be rotated about the CG, the front or back rotor and allow a slung load to be positioned very precisely. Watching a CH-46 ship to ship unrep is like watching art...

    Compass correction card

Does a mechanic check the compass every time there is avionics replacements. The change in avionics seems to be the driving factor in magnetic field changes and therefore compass error.

    Compass correction card

Some went up, some went down. I WILL NOT attach it to my airplane since I am only an owner/pilot and not an A&P (IA). I will keep it on my knee board so I can use it and actually fly safely.

    Compass correction card

On today's flight it was light and variable and I was in some empty airspace. I decided to update my compass correction card by flying the 30's compass headings using my GPS and then letting the compass settle on a number and writing it down. I now have a new compass correction card. Just a...

    Restaurant Steak?

The best steak I ate at a restaurant was at a place called "The Grate Steak." You order your steak and they brought it to you raw. They had a room on the side which had a giant charcoal grill. You went in and drank beer and cooked your steak and baked a potato. The salad bar was 20 yards...

Who to call for Flight Following?

This is a question your instructor should have worked with you to solve. I seem to remember something about gathering information about the flight before taking it.
