    Weird moment in the cockpit

As the father of a young gal who works the desk at a Bravo FBO, pilots get trash talked for lack of decent set of manners as well. Just not over a hot mic. Oh, she had a lot to say about the cheapo who spent a good amount of time demanding a bucket of hot water to “de-ice” the windscreen of his...

Piaggio P180 Avanti down in Costa Rica

Nothing to add but had a P180 behind me while flying a 172 long straight in to a Colorado airport at night. Turned a 360 so he could get in without issue. Small talk in the FBO afterwards and he thanked me for the courtesy. Hopefully this wasn’t that pilot.

    No Polarization Sunglasses

OP has prescription needs. You people with 20-20 can go make your own thread about how glorious it is to not need to wear glasses.

    Nokai Dome, Utah

Beautiful. Don’t have access to bush flying but did fly into Monument Valley for camping once. That entire region is just spectacular for the views.

New pilot job duties in Russia

Ditto. Had a short discussion about this with my wife once. Yeah that’s a hard stop. I’m lucky to piece together foam rc planes that are airworthy.

1 dead, 2 seriously injured in C172 crash at Newport News/Williamsburg International (KPHF)

I’m the same. Plus 5 on takeoff and over the threshold on landing. What’s an extra 5 unless dealing with short fields? Some planes don’t rotate well at book speeds due to extra drag from age. We are flying 20+ year old planes. Some of us anyways.

    182T rental price

Our club six pack 182 is $65 dry, tach. But clubs are hit or miss. Shop around if options exist. If the turbo is the best option out of the bunch then buy those blocks of time and do that.

    First aviation headset- choice?

@pigpenracing might be able to get you refurbed light speeds. Been a while but I purchased two through him. DCs are awesome also. New or used.

Checked off a huuuge bucket list item a few weeks ago...

Hill AFB museum has a similar setup with the platform to get up close to look in the cockpit. Have pics somewhere. Fantastic visit if you are in the area. Lot of static displays outside as well. Virtual tours of some aircraft. Including inside the cockpit of the SR71

1 dead, 2 seriously injured in C172 crash at Newport News/Williamsburg International (KPHF)

For some planes that seems especially beneficial, like maybe the cherokee PA28-180. That plane does not do well on departure without extra airspeed before rotation, or like you mentioned treat it like a soft field departure.

Why is the CAP so understaffed?

Depends on the wing/squadron I guess. Mine is polo CAP shirt, grey pants and black shoes. I can live with that.

    I need my IR!!!!

Yep! Wife and I got stuck part way on a XC flight. Bit of cloud that could have been managed on an IFR plan but had to land and wait things out for 5 hours. Currently slowly working towards the rating.

Why is the CAP so understaffed?

Want to chime in as a fairly new CAP member to a senior squadron, as of June. Was hesitant because of the military dress-up stuff at first (former Navy, six years and done with military life) but the grey slacks and CAP polo isn't bad, and you really only need to wear that for flying. The...

How much do you spend monthly/annually on flying

Just averaged my flying January - July: $650/month. That includes $65 club dues, $42ish ForeFlight, planes are dry plus avgas, plus Double-I when I did training flights. You know what, let's just not talk about this.

    More pattern shenanigans

Came across a coyote running alongside the runway landing at a fairly busy Delta. Notified the controller. Controller responds: welcome to Ogden.

    Pilots are awesome

I'm guessing you are being modest. I'm just over 300 and can land a plane without scaring people into jumping out before it has come to a stop. If so suggest an extra 5 kts over the threshold. Let the energy bleed out from there. When I fly with my wife it is stressful. She grades my landings...

Forced landing on beach near Watsonville - 27 August 2022

Not my place, but I am pretty sure if this happened to me I would not be offering up my life story for some YT clicks.

PC-12 Crash In South Dakota, 9 dead, 3 survivors (CFIBlizzard?)

Herd mentality. And this was a hunting group. Who amongst them would say "I'm gonna stay here and wait for a better day" verbally out loud when they probably have survived worse conditions out in the wild with no issues ... but they are not aviation knowledgeable. I'm sure at least some were...

CFI and student die in crash SMO

Don't care the plane. Cessna, Piper, Grumman. They all get the shimmy. Better to be consistent.
