I use the old school hood. Now that you mention it looking up to see the screen would defeat the purpose. I’ll try both locations for VFR flying. Maybe keep it on the yoke for IR training flights.

That’s what I have been using with the older Mini. And will probably use with the new one as well. But I want to try it anyways … probably mount it to the windscreen front and center. I’m in IR training and sometimes feel the yoke mount creates too much heads down focus away from the instruments.

Just musing here, and I’m sure once the aircraft pieces are mapped out a better picture of what happened may result, but would a large pocket of turbulence be able to tear off the horizontal stab? Maybe in conjunction with some ice build up? If so, wouldn’t a similar profile occur? Steep dive...

If it’s the passion go for it! I’m a VFR hobby pilot and high school teacher with retirement in around 10 years. I’ll stick with the teaching path and enjoy flying as a hobby. Sure, I’m pursuing my instrument and maybe after that commercial and CFI, but not in a hurry and just enjoying life as it is.

I guess my point is you are already scanning (both eyes and screen and radio). That last quick glance before turning final is not going to resolve anything. I’m pretty sure we don’t disagree on best practices. Maybe semantics.

Have you considered a club? My club has time building options to fly as well as re-sellable shares if you don’t plan on sticking around. Something to think about? Or a partnership. Pretty much the same but probably higher monthly rates.

While we are on this topic, I’m thinking about yoke options for my new mini. My old mini RAM mount I positioned so that the tablet was right on the yoke. Does anyone have any experience in using a RAM mount so that it’s lifted vertically some inches above the yoke? Thinking stability and such...

Not everything in FF zooms though. Kinda a PITA I had an old mini. Upgraded to the newest but don’t have a mount for it yet. If you are getting the larger version you won’t want it on the yoke as it will cover gauges and inhibit yoke control. And it won’t work well on the dash or side window...
