    Mid-Air at Winter Haven

I’m a fan of any tool that offers additional situational awareness, ADSB being one of them. That said, I’m not sure how useful it would be given the amount of traffic utilizing two separate facilities that are right next to each other. With only one pattern in play a quick glance gives you...

Latest iPad Pro Vs Air? - 2022 Models

I use the old school hood. Now that you mention it looking up to see the screen would defeat the purpose. I’ll try both locations for VFR flying. Maybe keep it on the yoke for IR training flights.

That’s what I have been using with the older Mini. And will probably use with the new one as well. But I want to try it anyways … probably mount it to the windscreen front and center. I’m in IR training and sometimes feel the yoke mount creates too much heads down focus away from the instruments.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ordered one including the suction cup mount. Probably won’t work in the summer heat but we’ll see.

PC 12 down in Nevada - 5 Fatalities

Just musing here, and I’m sure once the aircraft pieces are mapped out a better picture of what happened may result, but would a large pocket of turbulence be able to tear off the horizontal stab? Maybe in conjunction with some ice build up? If so, wouldn’t a similar profile occur? Steep dive...

    Change of career

If it’s the passion go for it! I’m a VFR hobby pilot and high school teacher with retirement in around 10 years. I’ll stick with the teaching path and enjoy flying as a hobby. Sure, I’m pursuing my instrument and maybe after that commercial and CFI, but not in a hurry and just enjoying life as it is.

Grumman AA1 at high density altitude

If solo, you could probably make it work. In cold wx, you could probably make it work. That’s probably too many probablies to be comfortable with. I’m in Salt Lake and fly an AA5B, along with a couple of other planes. The 150 will barely climb with two people on a summer day. I did fly it solo...

KWVI Watsonville MId Air, Multiple Fatalities

I guess my point is you are already scanning (both eyes and screen and radio). That last quick glance before turning final is not going to resolve anything. I’m pretty sure we don’t disagree on best practices. Maybe semantics.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. That was my implication though.

Looking for a time builder airplane (grab some popcorn and enjoy the show).

Have you considered a club? My club has time building options to fly as well as re-sellable shares if you don’t plan on sticking around. Something to think about? Or a partnership. Pretty much the same but probably higher monthly rates.

KWVI Watsonville MId Air, Multiple Fatalities

Not saying you are wrong and I’m certainly not picking a nit over it, but if the scan is completed before turning base (eyeballs and screen) when you have time and are already facing that general direction AND you don’t have a head on profile so relative motion will be more apparent, I still...

Gotcha. I thought it was part of the initial info but haven’t followed updates too closely.

KWVI Watsonville MId Air, Multiple Fatalities

Normally, I don’t look down the final approach course while on base, and I don’t really consider that careless. I do take a scan before turning base however, and if someone is announcing a straight in I’ll either extend downwind or execute a 360 and re-enter the downwind (depending on traffic...

Cirrus driver opts for urban highway over chute

He landed and ended up on the off-ramp. After looking at street view he was northbound. Map image won’t upload here at work … google map link: Dropped pin https://maps.google.com?q=40.5583306,-111.9768858&hl=en-US&gl=us&entry=gps&lucs=47062720

Thoughts on Progressive Lenses For Flying

At the same time there’s no reason to slam something that plenty of people have no problem with. So why do you have an issue with my rebuttal? They were over aggressive in their opinion against. I replied in kind.

Latest iPad Pro Vs Air? - 2022 Models

While we are on this topic, I’m thinking about yoke options for my new mini. My old mini RAM mount I positioned so that the tablet was right on the yoke. Does anyone have any experience in using a RAM mount so that it’s lifted vertically some inches above the yoke? Thinking stability and such...

Not everything in FF zooms though. Kinda a PITA I had an old mini. Upgraded to the newest but don’t have a mount for it yet. If you are getting the larger version you won’t want it on the yoke as it will cover gauges and inhibit yoke control. And it won’t work well on the dash or side window...
