There is a mustang at our airport. IIRC he qouted 170-175ktas in the mid teens at reasonable power settings.

Our 182RG is just shy of 1300lbs useful, IIRC its 1280 or so in useful load. Not a toga by any means but pretty solid, and with 88 usable (and a fuel selector you can set and forget on both) it makes it pretty flexible for loading on xc trips.

Its steel tubing, the main gear is fairly robust and we have landed on grass quite a bit. Just have always treated the nose gear gingerly, but thats on any 182 going into a rougher strip.

The viscosity index improvers are great but susceptible to shear, I haven't looked at what the blackstone reports show in shear would be interesting to look at. Honestly I have the most fun with tw, complex, high performance endorsements, and commercial students.

When its 115 degrees out and its your third flight it can be rough, but when you see your direct impact on a student moving forward it can be extremely satisfying.

Are you flying in the mountains or on the flatlands? 1k useful load you should look into a dakota or a earlier pa28-235, the turbo dakota is a little more complicated with a fixed wastegate and unless you need it for the mountains a 235 is a great load hauler.

How long are you going to own the plane, where are you flying(hi density altitude), how far, how much do weight do you want to carry, and how much are you willing to spend for acquisition and maintenance? Why limit yourself from a na dakota with the 235hp engine?
