Well done! I truly wished I had those logistics to make something similar happen - I just don't. I like your approach a lot though (pun intended). Yesterday, my wife and I flew back home and Approach had asked what I wanted into MLB so I asked for the Visual 9R. I had the RVAV 9R loaded in...

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

I don't think a PA32 is gonna meet the important parts of that mission.

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

I'm not there age wise, but the pricing was similar with my lack of time... about double for the retract.

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

The A36 vs Cherokee Six comparison above is pretty valid! I don't know what the cost comparison is if they're similarly priced. The Six w/fixed gear seems to demand a premium. For us, we went the Six (300) route because being a lower hour pilot with zero retract time was going to kill in...

Do landings just click one day?

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

Can you expand on your mission of the plane? Aside from going cross country, do you only need 4 seats plus plenty of luggage space OR do you need the option to have more than 4 seats and would the additional passengers be adults?

    Almost a student pilot again….

I learned with steam gauges. Then, last year bought a PA32 and it had partial glass (Aspen). So it was a nice balance and transition for me as I still had my steam gauges as backups around the Aspen. I still find myself looking at the steam gauges for the ASI, VSI, and Altimeter but am...

Do landings just click one day?

17 is not many at all! So don't be too quick to judge yet. I was just minted a PPL last year and went on and got my IR this year. I have about 460 landings spread about 3 different planes. When it got better and more consistent was when I got the final approach speed honed in. And the same...

Awesome Russ, thanks for the insight. That's the plan for sure... shoot some approaches in some Florida wintertime IMC (non-convective). I haven't shy'd away per se, but the opportunity just hasn't present itself this summer. About the closet 2 times I got was once flying into a...

@RussR question for you. Are there things you'd recommend for IR pilots to do to stay as proficient as possible during their regular every day flights? As an example, I got my IR in March. I file pretty much every flight I go on with only a few exceptions. I fly periodic IMC (enroute)...

Good catch! I just re-read 61.57(b)(2) and see what you're saying. (Corrected my post)

I agree with @Crashnburn. Train in the smallest/cheapest. You'll transition later to whatever you buy, you'll be fine. We purchased a Cherokee Six late last year and it's great for everything you mentioned. A Cessna could do it too as @bflynn mentioned. And DAYUM - that is one BIGA$$...

Similar here as you had mentioned. I just got my IR this past March. So I needed my currency by the end of this month. Last month I did a quick visit with an instructor at a location that had a Red Bird MCX. Spent about 20-30 minutes with him and now I can just go back whenever and crank up...

I think you're thinking too much on this. 61.57: Within the 6 calendar months preceding the month of the flight" --> you must have your 6 hits, hold, etc. If you have your 6 hits, hold, etc. in the preceding 6 months of the flight you're taking IFR, you're good. If not - you're not.

A proper sim can count too... Red Bird MCX is an example... if you have any of those nearby.

    gns530w terrain card failed

Terrain wouldn't update too often... Obstacles yes.... I think Garmin does updates for Obstacles every 56d and the Nav db every 28 to coincide with FAA.

    gns530w terrain card failed

The "Terrain" card is the same card as the "Obstacle" card. Both databases (Obstacle db and Terrain db) go on the same card. The Terrain db shouldn't be updated very often AT ALL. In fact, I think I accidentally updated it one time and it contributed to my issues. The "Nav" card holds the...

    gns530w terrain card failed

Call Garmin. I was having issue after issue with cards on my 430W. Initially I bought a new card on my own... still had problems. They sent me a couple different terrain cards, a new nav card, even a new card reader. They've worked hard to resolve the issues I was having and (knock on wood)...

    Apple to Android question

Since you already have an iPad, just keep FF and use whatever phone you want for "phone" stuff and use your iPad for FF. Another option, if you really need to have an iPhone for FF when you're not at the plane and don't want to use an iPad at the moment (at home/car/work/out and about)... keep...
