    Piper Cherokee oil usage

Oil turning black about midway through the change cycle is normal. 15 hours and you will usually start to notice it turning black and by the time you get to 40 hours it will be completely back in a normal mid time healthy engine. This is due to some normal wear on the rings. Oil will be a...

Cessna 210N- educate a bonanza guy

I am referring to the pilot and co-pilot seats. I am 6'1" and 215 lbs. I have flown a number of Bonanzas and find them quite cramped with another pilot in the right seat.

    12/16/20 Louisiana Cherokee 2 fatalaties

I got my PPL at 18 years of age. Some 18 year olds have the maturity to safely fly an airplane. I was not one of those 18 year olds. I am thankful I made it through those first 1-3 years of flying. Simply terrible decision making.

Cessna 210N- educate a bonanza guy

I like the 210 based on that it is designed for full size humans versus the scaled down humans from back in 1948 when the Bonanza was designed.

What do you use your plane for?

GA flying does not generally make alot of sense as a practical way to travel in a recreation sense. It can be more efficient, but seldom more economical than flying commercial. Then again, hunting is not a very economical way to get your protein or fishing as a means to getting your fish. I...

    Sad airplane thread

Same thing happens with old cars rotting in barns and garages. I am a classic car enthusiast and the cars rotting in barns or yards are almost impossible to buy - they are always going to be "fixed up" or owned by a parent or brother or even a dead family member.

Sleep overnight in small GA airports pilot lounge?

I am assuming that the poster is meaning small, one room type "FBOs" as is common at alot of small, rural non towered airports. I don't really think that under current conditions I would think it would be OK to stretch out on a couch and camp out in the lounge. Definitely not sanitary and not...

Strongest Crosswind I ever landed in...(VIDEO)

Why do you feel the need to do that? Leave that to his spouse if she feels the need (I am betting she did not). I think we each know our respective families and friends tolerance level a little better than anyone on this thread. In regard to the video - I thought it was great in how it...

Cherokee 6 (260HP) Vs Bonanza A36 Which one is better?

Bonanza was designed for the official FAA pilot (and typical 1940's man) - 5'10" @ 150 lbs. I don't know if people were really that much smaller back in 1946 when the Bonanza was designed, but I can assure you that if for some reason Textron designed a new single engine piston in 2020 it would...

First time in the clouds and I gave up

Bryan your experience and reaction to your first flight into IMC is more natural and common than you know. I can guarantee you that on your next flight into IMC it will be ten times better and less stressful. The IFR rating really opens up the utility of flying GA airplanes for cross country...

    David Clark One-X

I've got two One Xs up front and two A20's in the back for passengers. I use the Lemo connection for my One Xs. Like others, I tried them on one year at Oshkosh and got a good show special to boot. The Dave Clark customer service is legendary and earned. My wife destroyed the Lemo connector...

    Hollywood Sightseeing Flight Goes Wrong...

Flying Monkey produces great videos - topics and production quality. I have been flying since 1981 and have NEVER walked around my airplane with a written checklist. I cannot remember the last time I have ever seen another GA pilot on the ramp walking around his airplane with a written...

    Run-Up Area Etiquette

This happens. At 17 years old back in 1981 I can definitely see myself doing this and worse. I am sure that I did. I think the idea of a professional, but firm call out on CTAF would be appropriate. I learned a lot from old timers chewing my butt out when I did something stupid in the...

Best FBO at Dallas Love Field to drop a SW passenger off at

OK so Jet Aviation is the FBO right at the main entrance across the street from the rental cars and next to the parking garage? That probably would be walkable to the main terminal.

Best FBO at Dallas Love Field to drop a SW passenger off at

I need to drop someone off at Dallas Love Field to catch a Southwest flight. There are six FBOs on the field. Which would be the best choice / most convenient for this mission? I am aware of landing fees and there will not be a need to get fuel. I don't want to land in Addison. I have...

    Air-to-Air Piper Apaches

That museum has a great selection of classic aircraft, and they fly them often. They have some great warbirds too and are always ready to fly them to any local fly in if they possibly can. That blue Apache has a great YouTube video somewhere.

    Luscombe Road Trip—Wish me luck!

Great pictures. Guadalupe Peak at 8,750' is the highest point in Texas. Beautiful area. Jal, NM - wow, I have been there. I won't say anything about it. There may be some Jal locals on the board. Also - for a chain, Dickey's is not bad BBQ. Now, when you are in San Marcus you will be in...

IFR Current - Spacial D freakout

You are normal. I barely remember my first solo, but I vividly remember my first time in IMC by myself. I promise you that the next time it will not be as big of a deal. You might be surprised with how many IR pilots there are who have an AP in their airplane who don't regularly fly in IMC by...
