    Air-to-Air TBM and Premier

My son flies a TBM and he said it flies as good as it looks. That one looks great!

Is a plane faster than a car over 126 miles?

Good video and a topic that I often think about. I live 120 miles due east of Dallas off of I-20. I have about a 15 minute drive to my Class D airport just to get to the airplane to start the trip. I do fly to Dallas occasionally just because sometimes I don't feel like dealing with traffic...

    I almost landed gear up.

Thanks for posting this. I have not done it YET, but one thing that I was taught many years ago is to always verbalize all checklist items (including "mental" checklists) for all approaches. I think it really helps, especially for me as I move closer to the twilight years (I'm 59). Good job...

Reading bifocal glasses for night flying (and sailing) + sunglasses

You can get a pair of bifocal shooting safety glasses at lots of places. These things are great in the clouds, cloudy days, or dawn/dusk. Difference makers. Dual eyewear is where I get mine

IFR bust and frustration - advice needed

I have mentioned this before on here, but fly as much as you can between lessons by yourself and fly approaches, departures, procedure turns, slow flight, stalls etc in VMC. Doing all the IFR procedures in clear VMC by yourself will help establish patterns and muscle memory so that your lessons...

I bought an airplane. It was a lifelong dream. 6 months later, I'm out. (Reddit post)

There is alot of truth to that post. I've been flying since I was 18;years old and have owned a few airplanes. I don't recommend this flying lifestyle unless you are very rich (I am not) or unless you are willing to completely get involved in the maintenance and upkeep of your airplane (which...

Mechanic shortage worse than pilot shortage

Ask around and find out what most shops actually pay their piston A&P's - you might be shocked at how low the pay is and most don't get alot of opportunities for OT. 40 hours @ $20 per hour around here for a young piston A&P is about the norm.

    Who wants one? (eVTOL)

I would be willing to pay $200-$400 to rent one for 30 minutes just to experience it. After that one flight, I am sure that I would be good.

    Further instrument difficulties

This is for anyone - fly approaches, holds, etc by yourself VFR as often as possible. 3-4 times per week if you can. Once you get under the hood, you will find that it is much easier than what you expect. I fly 80% of my VFR flights on a IFR FP and fly a full approach for one reason - it...

    Commercial written study programs

I used King and was very happy with the results. Scored a 92 and this particular King course is updated with a younger presenter. The Kings are still there, but in a reduced role. Just the right amount of their cornball humor. Martha and one of her old friends kind of take you through it.

    Right of way

I kind of disagree with the fault simply being pilots who don't know how to look for traffic. I am 59 years old and still have a 2nd class medical (for some reason wanting to stay qualified to fly under my Commercial certificate) and I find myself not being able to spot traffic like I did when...

    YouTube channel

I really like this channel. The humor is spot on - at least for my taste. The way the information is presented is great. It is amazing the condition of the aircraft that pilots put themselves and their families in. Keep up the great work.

Which is the better FBO job? Front Desk or Line Tech / Fueler?

Line. And you are correct - this is an excellent place for networking to get your first paying pilot job. My son is flying for a commercial charter operation that he was exposed to as a line jockey fueling up their planes.

How long it took you to fly with your loved ones?

Well, I got my PPL in 1981 at the age of 18. My first "passenger" was my dad. He is where I got my love of airplanes from (and quite frankly my love of anything that has an engine). My dad still loves to fly with me (He is 82 now). My wife met me in college and we got married right after...

the Turbo 182 is back in production

I get not seeing the "value" in a new T182T at $650K. But....I don't see the value in a new Cirrus 22T @ $1.2M even less so. And there is a year long waiting list for one of those. Cessna I am sure did extensive market studies before they decided to do this. This was definitely not some "do...

    Best Online Commercial Course

I voted for King, but that is because that was the course that I used. I don't have any first hand knowledge of the others. My reason for using King's was that I had satisfactory past experiences with them in other courses and I got a timely email from them for a discount on any of their...

    Tipping FBO Staff

I try to always tip the linemen $5-10. They are going to tug your plane to parking. If you don't tip for that reason alone you are crazy.

    Anyone watch Jimmy's World?

I have been watching a few of his videos. From what I have been able to pick up on him, he is obviously an entrepreneur of some sort who was able to cash out in some manner. "Dumb" is definitely not how I would describe him. As far as starting engines, that is something that alot of people do...

    Solo Flying

I remember my first couple of solo flights back in 1981 when I was 18 years old. I remember it was always a relief when the airport came into view (and it was the correct airport!). All that "pilotage" stuff actually worked most of the time. I think I had to land and get my log book signed...
