    GAMI 100UL update by AVweb

Expensive? "Unavailable" (e.g. 100LL at KRHV) is pretty expensive.

Flying the Baja Boondoggle (Part 2): Constitución & Loreto

Today we’re off to Constitución and Loreto, first to drop off some first-responder supplies and then on to Loreto for a little (more) relaxation. Bill, Jason and I in Bill’s Skylane are joined by Joe, Linda, and Larry in Larry’s Comanche. Welcome aboard! Wayne, GeezerGeek Pilot

Flying the Baja Boondoggle (Part 1): Outbound to Mulegé

We’re off again (gladly!) to the Baja… this time as mostly a leisurely boondoggle, with a touch of charitable action thrown in. After Bill and Jason pick me up in Bill’s pumped-up C182, we fly the Coliseum route through the LA Bravo, get cleared through the San Diego Bravo, then onward to clear...

Flying to Tucson & Mexico (Part 1): Steve, an Inventive Aviator

Today good friend Steve and I are off on a 4-day jaunt for a LightHawk pilot get-together in Tucson. Clear skies and a headwind provide ample time to learn of Steve’s aviation inventions (AltAlert, NavAlert, Sky Connect) as well as his US-to-Europe crossing in a 182RG. Welcome aboard! Wayne...

Joining an arrival using a GTN 750

I agree with Mark... and it depends. (a) If ATC instructs "cleared direct waypoint_xyz" (or if VFR, you decide you want to go to that point), then: select waypoint_xyz Direct. (b) If ATC instructs "fly heading 270, join Victor 123" (or if VFR, you want to join a given airway or leg), then...

    Garmin Pilot vs ForeFlight

On one hand, it's largely a matter of taste, as the two products have very similar basic functionality. On the other hand, there are differences... some in functionality and some in the user interface. Here's the latest episode in a series of Side-by-Side comparisons...

A Bit of Prep for Raymond's Instrument Proficiency Check (Full ATC)

Today we’re along for the ride as Raymond, almost 2 years out of currency, brushes up on his IFR skills with both magenta and green needle approaches. Welcome aboard! Wayne, GeezerGeek Pilot

What do you look for in airplane videos/channels?

Taft, I very much enjoyed the videos of your trip Austin to CA (pretty sure they're yours). I like the "journey" part of these and other videos, plus the chance to observe changes-to-plan (such as your adjustments to weather). Details of planning and conducting the flight (e.g. flight plan...

Joining an arrival using a GTN 750

Agreed. An additional nice tool can be used on the PFD (G3X and G1000 for sure)... you can put "Nearest Airport" (although it might be "Destination Airport"??) on one of the 2 bearing pointers, and the current distance to that nearest airport (and bearing pointed to on the HSI) sits there...

    G-1000 Tips and Tricks

Absolutely true; good catch... perhaps OP has an old analog KAP140, which would mean a bad assumption on my part. If OP has a GFC700, then life (and the FD) is very good.

    G-1000 Tips and Tricks

I'd suggest doing this transition in (at least) 2 phases (both as Mark suggests with a CFI familiar with glass): [the below assumes you're already comfortable "programming" the navigator and basic autopilot functions] (1) first flying to "raw data" (Flight Director off)... heading bug, CDI, and...

ForeFlight & Garmin Pilot: Part 5 - Apples-to-Apples - Pre-Flight Santa Monica to Phoenix Gateway

@FPK1, I also find the ForeFlight Web version a very useful complement to ForeFlight Mobile. Ultimately I'd like to see the Web version have all the functionality of the Mobile version (for the new Apple chips in Macs this is already pretty much the case). Thanks for the feedback, Wayne

ForeFlight & Garmin Pilot: Part 5 - Apples-to-Apples - Pre-Flight Santa Monica to Phoenix Gateway

In previous episodes of this series, Jan and I were primarily in-the-air flying the aircraft… and therefore our side-by-side comparisons of ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot were somewhat limited by the practicalities of aviating safely. In this Part 5, we conduct a more controlled apples-to-apples...

Planning a VFR Cross Country in ForeFlight

Mark, I’m admittedly a planning geek :); actually love that aspect of aviation. Thx for watching!
