Daughter looking for work in the D.C. area

Mainly because she wants to end up at GWU. I think she'd be open to other areas too, DC is just her plan.

Daughter looking for work in the D.C. area

I'm looking for advise and/or possibly referrals from POA members. My daughter is going to be graduating from the U of MN this summer, she'll be done the end of August. She has set her sites on living in the D.C. area, but we (being from MN) no nobody and have no connections there. She wants to...

    Air show Granite Falls MN

So did they end up doing the airshow yesterday? I did take advantage of the weather window we had in the afternoon yesterday and flew from KOTG (Worthington) to Y49 (Walker). We flew within about 12 miles of Granite Falls. There was a little radio traffic around Granite, but very little. We...

Where can I get a Garmin G5 installed with an Avidyne IFD540?

I had my G5 installed at Spencer Avionics, Spencer IA. A little over your 250 mile limit, but they do good work.

Avidyne IFD440 and 540... who has one?

I replaced my 430W with the IFD440 about 6 months ago. I've flown over 50 hrs with it and haven't experienced any GPS issues. Personally I couldn't be happier with mine. I'm not doubting others issues, just giving my experience.

Avidyne IFD440 and 540... who has one?

Here is a picture I took of my IFD100 & IFD440 yesterday. Sorry the picture isn't better, to much glare to get a good pic. I love the setup, the 12" Ipad Pro is a bit of overkill for sure, but it works good and surprisingly isn't in the way for the front seat passenger. Being able to put your...

Issues Downloading Approach Plates on Garmin Pilot for Android?

I like Garmin Pilot but had to give up on the android version. Mine was very unstable, kept locking up and shutting the ap down when I tried to view a approach plate. Broke down and bought an Ipad mini, the IOS version of Garmin Pilot seems more polished. It's been stable and has more features...

Avidyne IFD440 and 540... who has one?

My IFD440 was right at $6k trading in my 430W. I don't think you'll find much difference in the cost of a 440 and 650 or a 540 and 750. Huge difference in install time/cost. I've done the slide in replacement myself, so my plane wasn't stuck at an avionics shop for days plus of course the cost...

Avidyne IFD440 and 540... who has one?

I have a G5 and a GTX345, works with both. The only thing I don't have is the ADS-b in weather (I do have traffic) on the IFD440 and IFD100, not that it won't work but it does need a dedicated wire ran from the 345 to the 440 for weather and I haven't had that done. I don't use the 440/100 for...

Avidyne IFD440 and 540... who has one?

After spending more time with the IFD440 I have really come to love it. I just did the upgrade to 10.2.1 this weekend (myself), free software upgrade, that's something you won't get with Garmin. I also now have updated my data bases so they are matching in the IFD440 and IFD100, being able to...

WW2 museum in Granite Falls MN

All of them fly except a BF-109 that was displayed hanging from the ceiling. Every plane with the wheels on the ground fly. I’m not kidding when I say these planes are restored to like new condition. I think they said they have 6 full time mechanics restoring and keeping the planes flyable.

WW2 museum in Granite Falls MN

Oops, my bad, yes obviously that's a P-51. They do have some P-40's but unfortunately the one they have an exhibit of was in annual.

WW2 museum in Granite Falls MN

If your in the upper midwest and are into WW2 era warbirds I would highly recommend this museum. It's located at KGDB in Granite Falls, 3 hangers full of WW2 displays. All of the planes that have the wheels on the ground are fully restored to flyable condition. I flew my father there, from...

    What planes should I consider?

You should at least consider a Socata Trinidad. Not super fast, mine trues at ~155kts, but, 2 doors, retract with trailing link gear, large fuel capacity (86 gal), most are between 1100 and 1200 useful load, and even though it's considered high performance and complex, they are simple to fly. I...

Checked off a bucket list item.....Bahamas!

Yes, I can give a few, nothing probably knew but it may ease your mind a bit. Day of the flight do you eapis forms on line, unlike others I don't recommend doing them early (or return flight at the same time). After doing mine, then doing flight plan and calling for a weather brief I decided to...

    IO-540 Leaning...

Again, from what I have been told, it's hard to hurt the IO-540 if you stay at 65% power. BUT, I am not an expert, the last thing I want to do is give bad advise! IMO 100 ROP seems a little to conservative.

    IO-540 Leaning...

I fly a Trinidad with an IO-540. I set power by the book settings and fly at 65% power. When I first bought it I leaned to peak and then ROP 50-75 degrees, at cruise that was always right around 13.5 g per hr, depending a little on altitude. Now I almost always just set mixture off fuel flow...

Checked off a bucket list item.....Bahamas!

Fly over the SW side of the island, large shallow flats are beautiful! Tippy's is a good place to eat, but expensive. To be honest, the best meal and most fun was the Friday night fish fry at Governors Harbor, if you get a chance hit that! Food was good, and cheap for Bahamas, $12/person. We hit...
