    Diamond DA50

I've always liked Diamond's too. If money weren't an object a DA62 would be on top of the list for me! The DA50 has been rumored and in prototype for years, it's been through several different engine options. I'd love to see it come to the market, but honestly doubt it'll happen. The single...

    Piper PA32 vs Cessna 337

Congrats! They're a load hauler for sure! I'm sure you'll appreciate all the room. We've had 4 people (my wife, 2 adult kids and myself) and our golden retrieve in my TB20. It's doable, but not comfortable, wouldn't want the flight to be much more than 1.5 hrs. I guess it doesn't bother...

    Almost 2 yrs later.....

I passed my written in March of 2017, but because of work and life I didn't really start doing any work with a CFII until that fall. I did about 15 hrs with that instructor, then again work and life, and some avionics upgrades in my plane got in the way of continuing. So my written was set to...

Has anyone insured a complex aircraft as a student pilot?

I'm with AIR also. My rate was ~$2300/yr as a student pilot about 5 yrs ago. Socata Trinidad, complex and HP. As I've built hours in type they've went down, I'm at ~$1200/yr now. Highly recommend AIR. This is my agents information: Carrie Marsh Aviation Insurance Resources 301-682-6200 office...

    Foreflight is now Boeing

I've never been a Foreflight user, started with Garmin Pilot and now using FlyQ also. Options are good, with Boeing buying Foreflight I think that option will not be as attractive.

    Insurance rates

Do insurance premiums vary by location? Car insurance sure does but I don't know if aircraft insurance does as well. I'm in MN, $100,000 hull, 1 mil, complex, HP single, no IFR and ~ 500hrs total time. My rate is ~$1200/yr. Started out 4 yrs ago almost double that, but has come down as I have...

    Avidyne question - IFD 100 / charts..

You'll still have the charts after they expire, but they'll be watermarked "not for navigation" and you'll not get georef any longer. Many with IFD540/550 get the Jeppesen IFD440 bundle, it's cheaper but doesn't include chart updates. Charts are cheaper on Flyq and are georef as well as taxi...

    Avidyne question - IFD 100 / charts..

As long as your charts are up to date you'll have referenced charts.

    Avidyne question - IFD 100 / charts..

You can get Jeppesen charts on the IFD100 if you order it as a part of your bundle, even if you have an IFD440 that doesn't support charts.

    TB-20 Trinidad

My MX hasn't been bad. Like I said in an earlier post, you sometimes have to be a little "resourceful", but I've gotten help from the owners group on where to get some parts. The biggest one was the squat switch. They rarely fail, but the wires coming out of them can get brittle over time and...

    TB-20 Trinidad

It can be hard to find a nice Trinidad, just fewer of them on the market. When I was looking to buy I wanted 2 doors, so I really didn't consider a Bo, we all have things that are priorities. Most TB20's will have a useful load around 1100 lbs, add AC and you'll lose some, I'm in MN so AC wasn't...

    Night VFR Poll

I love flying at night. I'll tend to stay a little higher if possible, just to give myself a little more glide range. Almost all of my flying is rural farmland country. The only thing I like about bigger cities is the lights form the air at night, beautiful!

    TB-20 Trinidad

Socata-Daher still does support the TB line with parts, but some can be pricey, other things are actually pretty reasonable. A couple things I've sourced from other places. I bought wing tips from Knots 4 U, could get a set for under $500, from Socata they are $2000 each! I also got a used squat...

    TB-20 Trinidad

Parts availability hasn't been an issue for me, although I haven't needed much. Most of the parts are common, it's just airframe parts that you have to get from Socata-Daher. Most are available in the U.S., if not they ship from France. You can get an account with Socata-Daher and see what's in...

    TB-20 Trinidad

I've owned mine for a little over 3 years. I've read a lot of misleading info about them here and on other sites. I'd be glad to address any questions you may have. As far as headroom in the cabin, I'm 5'10" and have no problems, my son is 6'1" and also has no issues. The seats lay a little...

For Sale Electronics International FP 5L

I removed this from my plane when I installed a new engine monitor in my TB20. Worked perfectly when removed about a month ago. Would come with all the wiring harness, fuel flow transducer and FM Temp module as pictured. This is the model that will interface with your GPS. $400

Advice: Flying through O’Hare Bravo VFR

It's interesting how much more difficult it can be getting cleared through bravo in other locations. I've flown into St. Paul's Holman Field vfr multiple times, coming from the SW I almost always get cleared into bravo right over the top of MSP. They keep me at 4000', then drop you down quickly...

    Adding EI MVP 50

So we got the Avidyne IFD440 connected to the MVP 50, everything is now working. Took a flight yesterday, did have #5 cylinder head temp giving erratic readings on the way home, they'd jump around very quickly and always reading low, guessing a loose connection. Today I removed my seat rail...

    Dog ear protection?

We use ear protection for our Golden Retriever when he flies with us, which is pretty often. Wife always puts the mutt muffs on him...I sometimes forget. He doesn't seem to mind them but I'm not sure how much actual hearing protection they provide.

    Adding EI MVP 50
