    Mid-Air at Winter Haven

So an altimeter setting off by 50' + actual 640MSL (500' above the lake=zero) and now you're at 700' even before allowing for being off your altitude just slightly. A short approach simulated engine out approach is going to be at 700' at the key point. I don't see how it took this long for an...

    Visual Approach

Everytime I've been given the visual at a towered field and check on with the tower with "N123 visual rwy 4" tower has given me some kind of instruction as to what they want me to do- enter left downwind, right base, follow traffic, etc. But yes for a new IFR pilot can be confusing. Especially...

A/C R12 Recovery during AC blower repair

Yeah the whole thing has to come out to replace the motor as it is riveted inside the plastic housing thus requiring system discharge. And yes, had planned on replacing the dryer also as part of the reinstall.

A/C R12 Recovery during AC blower repair

Have a Piper PA34-220T with factory AC. R12 refrigerant. Worked great until the blower motor went out yesterday- now won't move air at all. I have sourced some motor replacements that aren't too ridiculous $$ wise, but in order to remove the motor looks like the entire evaporator housing will...

Seneca IV Vacuum removal with deice boots

The Aspen dual Pro Max STC allows removal of the vacuum instruments but doesn't address the effects on the deice system which is also driven off the vacuum and a pressure pump. The older Aspen install kept the vacuum AI and electric TC or in my case electric AI as backup. However we switched to...

Seneca IV Vacuum removal with deice boots

Vacuum/boots help- for those with boots that have removed a vacuum system for glass panel. Did you cap off the line to the AI/HSI gyro instruments(item 12 on the Piper service manual) and keep the rest of the system intact? If so, what happened to the panel vacuum gauge and the master caution...

Oh Continental, what have you done now?

"For affected engines with an installed crankshaft assembly identified in paragraphs (g)(1) or (2) of this AD, before further flight, do the actions identified in, and in accordance with paragraph III, Action Required, of Continental Mandatory Service Bulletin MSB23-01, Revision A, dated...

Oh Continental, what have you done now?

Just had a discussion with my IA about this. They recently discussed it at an IA seminar. If your SN is not in the list the AD doesn't apply and don't need a sign off saying that. They even went so far as to say that if an AD is not applicable to your plane then you do not have to have a record...

Normal for a 'bo to dump fuel during startup?

my tsio360 gives times for priming based on outside temps -but I followed that today and still saw fuel spilling out the overflow vent. Started it like a flooded start and all well- used a bit less prime on the other engine and started fine.

    everyday deice boot cleaning

Radar helps with the big ones, storm scope for lightning bugs. But the little ones still get me.

    everyday deice boot cleaning

I know there are specialized products to care for deice boots. However, what do you use for everyday bug removal? I use Aerowash Wax All for everyday cleaning/coating on metal parts. Is this safe for boots as well?

    Accessing rear of instrument panel

Yeah if it was sitting out on a bench would not be difficult to figure out. Its contemplating doing all this behind the panel with unknown amount of service loop working material that has me worried.

    Accessing rear of instrument panel

Have a Seneca IV. I am looking to replace the 760 JPI with a 790. From instrument perspective should be a simple plug and play as the connectors are the same. I am trying to gauge the level of difficulty for planning for either doing myself with A&P supervision, or how much time/effort to...

    CGR install questions

1- Seneca IV has MAP with integrated switches that complete the annunciator panel circuit when MAP exceeds 39.5" to light the overboost light on the warning panel. Can the CGR 30P be used to light that warning switch or would you have to depend on the warning light incorporated into the CGR or...

    Janitrol heater not working

Since Hartzell bought both Janitrol and C&D, they are selling an I model now. Is this derived from the Janitrol design or the C&D? Looks like it has solid state switches at least

    Janitrol heater not working

What heater did you replace it with? Hartzell bought both Janitrol and C&D. Looks like there is an iconel replacement with solid state switches for $12k

    Janitrol heater not working

That makes sense. Replacement switch assemblies are in the 1 AMU range. Do you know if you can replace with a solid state switch as opposed to a full heater replacement? but agree, that’s a terrible design.

    Janitrol heater not working

Thanks! Thats what I was thinking as well. On what parts and maintenance manuals I could find- there didn't appear to be a capacitor in that position and it looks to be a very fragile location for a disc capcacitor so wasn't sure if this was some wonky attempt at repair in years past. The same...

    Janitrol heater not working

New plane- Janitrol i3500 heater not working (PA34-220T). Blower fan works. Combustion overheat light didn't come on. Looks like there is a broken wire on a resistor in the duct switch assembly. Would this cause the problem? Or am I wasting time chasing this problem and need to consider bigger...
