Pilot Earns commercial pilot certificate in experimental Cessna 172

I'm regretting starting this post.... To be clear, we are not selling anything to anyone, and certainly not trying to promote any "fallacy" as prior member alludes to, and really don't want to get into any more cut & pasting of regs/policy/ect contest. We did put a lot of work into answering...

Pilot Earns commercial pilot certificate in experimental Cessna 172

Actually, Experimental Exhibition category limitations are similar to amateur built now. Current C172 Exp has no geographic limitations after the phase 1 testing (initial test flights, usually 25-40 hours, but could be a lot less depending on the aircraft). EXP operation limits are national...

Pilot Earns commercial pilot certificate in experimental Cessna 172

Hola fellow PoA'ers..... I just wanted to send out congrats to a new forum member that will soon be joining PoA. He was building time and training for his commercial certificate, and as most of us, finding it difficult to afford at $145/hr rental rates for a C172. I loaned him our experimental...

Need Narco MK12 mounting trays with terminals

Please send me a photo of the rear of the radio the tray matches. There seems to a pin connection config for the direct original Cessna replacement model, and flat connections for original Narco configuration.

Help with Dynon HDX heading issue

Solved my issue by changing out wire between magnetometer sensor and EFIS box with a braided shielded jacket and grounding one end of shield to known ground. Hope that helps.

Thanks for input. My ADSB out is a wing tip unit and I contacted manufacturer about what John mentioned… that my out signal may not be including I have capability to receive both 1090 and 978, but was told there was no such feature or signal option. Not sure where to go from here. Still not...

Need Narco MK12 mounting trays with terminals

Help with Dynon HDX heading issue

Can you please let me know how you fixed the problem. I am having the same issue with another brand of AHRS, but get the erratic heading errors when banking, not in pitch changes. for what its worth, I initially placed magnetometer in fiberglass wing tip of a c172, but could not get the thing...

Buying a plane for building hours

What about engine reserves? What about when the vacuum pump or transponder fails? Annual Insp turns up low compression in a single cylinder, or cracked engine mount on a 5O year old plane? As mentioned, if you must buy, get something cheap to fly, preferably experimental, as components and...

Buying a plane for building hours

If it flies, floats, or f**ks, it cheaper to rent. If you buy, don’t buy a certified unless something simple and cheap like an Ercoupe, but IFR certified if you plan on the rating. Experimental aircraft are far more cost effective, so consider that. To give you an idea, I put an experimental...

    Avionics TSO v. non TSO

Here is the cliff note version we were given in FAA DER training for required equipment: TSO simply means the product was demonstrated to meet that TSO requirements without any specific installation approval to any aircraft. Typically, the TSO manufacturer gets an STC for specific TC aircraft...

Had this guy do some work and an annual inspection and he did a great job and wanted to pass his info along as good shops seem hard to find… actually any shops seem hard to find now a days. He has a hanger in Colorado Springs area (KFLY) but travels to customers depending on job. He is an AF...

What path should I take to get to the majors

Ryan, one more thing….. have you been in a small airplane much? I have seen more than one person dream about flying all their life only to discover they were terrified once off the ground, or quickly got sick (this you can get used to for most that stick it out). Maybe some members here are near...

What path should I take to get to the majors

Ryan…. If your goal is airlines, I’d would suggest not going military due to commitment that is likely 8 years before you can get on with a carrier…..that’s a lot of seniority numbers. The air guard and reserves May be a better way, as full time commitment is a lot less and you can complete...

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

Decades of Junk science? Maybe, but there are several blogs that attribute Big Foot's demise to high lead content in blood after living at a North Colorado fly in community for several years. I'll see if I can post them for reference.

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

Not sure your point ? AVGAS hasn't gone away because of being only approved fuel all these years and outlawing as every other use had would severely economically impact the industry and economy. Now there is alternative, just one, but the fact is there is now an alternative. I expect to see...

Leaded gas and the EPA...here it comes

Just google it. Here's just a few, from MIT and EPA. Maybe this lead poison hype is yet another conspiracy. https://countyairports.sccgov.org/sites/g/files/exjcpb686/files/Model-extrapolated%20Est%20of%20Airbornn%20Lead%20Concentrations%20at%20US%20Airports.pdf...

    High Frequency Radio

HF radios are bad choice. Look at most international nav charts and you will see satcom numbers for almost all ATC facilities. You can rent a unit for a trip as well. Also, if you plan using busy airways, you can relay through another aircraft that has HF or digital com, such a ADS or CPDLC...
