    Flight Following

When I did my ATC tower visit a couple weeks ago I asked them this very question. They said anyone can give me flight following (Clearance, Ground, ATC, Departure, Center), but it's best to request it at the earliest opportunity. The Tower Sup said if I'm flying out of KLNK (Class C) I can...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

lol, that sounds almost exactly like my solo experience. I was definitely landing flat and not rounding out properly which contributed to the one porpoise landing. They were by far my worst landings to date and that even includes my very first landings. I also plan to go up again this week to...

How many hours it take you to solo?

Just solo'd on Friday at approx 17 hours in a Cirrus SR20 Flying out of a Class C (KLNK)

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Well, guess who flew a plane all by himself yesterday? As I mentioned earlier I was kind of expecting it if the weather held out, and it did. We did some normal work out in the VFR practice area and then a handful of touch and goes and my CFI jumped on the radio and informed the tower...

Taking off with a plane on downwind

The part the OP didn't tell us is that he was taking off in a 747 and caused wake turbulence... (just kidding) Yeah, you did the right thing and I wouldn't hesitate with somebody on the downwind. If they're turning base I'd personally wait unless they were on one of those 5 mile away base turns.

Comparison between SR22T and DA42 VI - Check my numbers

They're both great planes, so I don't think you'd go wrong either way. My wife and I personally put a lot of value in the chute on the Cirrus so that's why it's our choice, but others consider it just an unnecessary weight penalty. Aren't these fun problems to have. :)

    Ultralight crash near HHR

I have no words. I saw a picture of her in one of the articles and it brought a tear to my eye because it's easy to see from afar how full of life she was. Our entire community grieves with you and your family. :(

    Solo on Tuesday!

That stinks, I haven't gotten any indication from my CFI, but I was "hoping" for a solo this Friday. However, the winds have been steadily creeping up in the forecast at KLNK. Last I checked was 20mph, but straight down the runway at least.

    Overnight Rental

With my club it's a minimum of 1.5 hours per day minimum so as long as you cover the 1.5 hours on the total bill then it doesn't matter. Meaning if I'm flying on a 6 hour total rental flight over the weekend I could pick it up Friday afternoon and fly it to an airport closer to home, then leave...

    Rich mans game

Being poor is a state of mind, not a number. You fix your state of mind and the numbers work out all by themselves. There's always a way to do the things you want to do in this life if you're willing to sacrifice other things to achieve them. Work after hours delivering pizzas to go to school...

    Caitlyn Jenner, Really?

I had no clue she was a pilot. I am pretty sure if I knew details about the personal lives of most pilots I probably wouldn't approve so that part doesn't bother me at all. hah

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

lol, that's for sure. I tried doing the exact same thing. However, now that I've been flying a little (just shy of 17 hours) I find myself re-reading all the stuff I read before and it makes a LOT more sense now.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I got another couple hours in last Friday. I got my first opportunity to have a passenger because a buddy of mine wanted to tag along. It allowed me to do a full weight and balance because we could have gone over if the tanks were too full (yes, we both need to go on a diet) :( We did a couple...

    Solo on Tuesday!

lol, now it's all about the GoPro's. I do want to record my solo, but I'm hesitant to ask my instructor if it will be ok. I want to record it for training and also the keepsake aspect of it, but I also don't want it to be a distraction.

    Solo on Tuesday!

Yeah, mines pretty basic. It's also an open book multiple guess exam that I got to take home with me. I'd say it's just a mechanism to make sure I've read through all the pertinent pieces as Mike mentioned.

    Solo on Tuesday!

Awesome, I'm excited for you. I just got the pre-solo test myself on Friday so I'll be turning it in next week. I don't have a date yet, but if weather is decent I'm sure I'll be soloing within the next few weeks as well.

    Solo on Tuesday!

I'm not an insurance expert, but my understanding is that the club insurance covers the hull only. If I ball it up and take out a building on my solo I'm responsible for the damages personally. Certainly they can go after the school in a lawsuit, but they can and will also go after the pilot...

    Close call

Thanks for sharing your story and I'm glad you guys made it back safe. Of course hindsight is 20/20 and most of us (including yourself) see the benefit of heading straight to JFK. I certainly have learned from you sharing your experience as have others so once again thanks for sharing.
