    182 down knoxville

There was a thin convective line running through that area yesterday. VFR does not seem like it would have been a good idea at all. So sad for all those involved.

Mooney vs Cirrus. I chose a Mooney.

    I fly a cirrus and I'm not a doctor. Hey, wait a minute... o_O

    Test flew an SR22T-G5 today

Congrats on the test flight. It's one of those experiences that makes it difficult to get into another plane afterwords. :) One option to also consider if you have some timing issues is to order a new one and put it on factory leaseback with Cirrus. I have a friend who did that for a year...

Will Cirrus SR used prices drop once the Vision Jet is out?

Sadly for all of us, Cirrus doesn't have the market cornered on stall spins in the pattern.

Will Cirrus SR used prices drop once the Vision Jet is out?

And fortunately you'll be able to have a beer with the pilot and occupants when they do. ;)

Flying Again - MzeroA DVD - Jason Schapert

I was wandering through the trade show at Oshkosh and heard "the voice" from across the building. I started to smile and asked my wife if she wanted to go meet Jason. It was fun meeting him in person and chatting for a bit. I always enjoy his videos, and his over the top enthusiasm is...

another Cirrus engine failure. Another chute saves

Yes, it's fully covered at the hull value. So basically the only reason to attempt an off airport landing is if you as PIC felt you had better odds of survival by doing so. There have been several that have flown again post CAPS, but generally speaking the airplane will likely be totaled. On...

another Cirrus engine failure. Another chute saves

Ron, you've done an exceptional job of describing why a pilot should use the chute (or is it shoot) and I couldn't agree more. To those suggesting they would prefer to land off airport vs. pull the chute, the only thing I can really say is you're putting yourself and your family/friends at far...

Do you prefer being on top or bottom?

I just realized I had a few pictures over the top. This is cruising at 9500' and there was a system off to the left. I was skirting it 20-30 miles on the latter half of the trip and it looked like this. To the right was fairly open and I never lost complete contact with the ground so I was...

Do you prefer being on top or bottom?

Ditto, the more reserve I have the better. My plane will go up to 6 hours on full fuel so I'm almost always landing with two to three hours of reserve and have no problem with that. I couldn't imagine trying to stretch to VFR reserves with only 30 minutes left. eek

Do you prefer being on top or bottom?

I have to commend you guys on not devolving this into a Cirrus bashing party (ok, not too far down that road anyways) haha. I will comment as a pilot in a similar experience state as the OP described. I'm a 73 hour newly minted pilot that has all but one hour in a pimped out Cirrus. (working...

    Flying in sandals..

I flew last week in some flip flops and thought of this thread about halfway through my flight. Fortunately I didn't have to use the chute (it was close though).

    Interesting Cirrus article

Ailerons are very light and one finger can easily push them back and forth. The elevator is a little more firm, but still pretty light overall.

    Interesting Cirrus article

Doing plenty of controlled stalls in training I always felt the controls getting plenty mushy as we slowed down and I definitely got plenty of feedback. I am sure that you get "more" feedback in a C172, but I think it's a red herring that people like to point to as a cure all for stall spin...

    Interesting Cirrus article

I thought it was a decent article and really touched on the efforts of COPA and Cirrus to educate their pilots. I've attended the COPA Critical Decision Making (CDM) and Cirrus Pilot Proficiency Program (CPPP) and both were wonderful events loaded with information. During the CPPP they have a...

    Flying into Airventure 2016

You are correct. I was on the north side of 27 at about the 500' marker and witnessed it. He was coming in pretty fast and bounced it a little and looked like he set it back down fine and then the gear just collapsed. I couldn't tell if he doinked the nose coming back down, but it honestly...
